Housing Support Worker- Full Time

Woodstock, Ontario- Harvey Woods Lofts Program

Salary: $45,900-$54,600

 

Position Description:  The Housing Support Worker promotes housing stability and supporting health, wellness and community belonging. Participating as a member of an interdisciplinary team supporting the treatment, rehabilitation, and care for individuals within the program. This is a specialized housing program serving individuals who have experienced long term housing instability and/or long stay hospitalizations.

Hours of Work:  Full time- 40 hours per week.  Sunday to Thursday schedule with varying shifts from 8am-4pm, 10am-6pm and 12:30pm-8:30pm, including some public holidays.  Hours worked to be scheduled as required by program needs.   As the program operates 7 days a week, being on-call for 1 week every 4/6 weeks is required to support the tenants and each other on the team. The on-call rotation consists of carrying a work cell phone 24/7 for that one week, responding to urgent matters.  

 

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING:

 

  • Working as part of an inter-disciplinary team to provide direct and indirect support to individuals.  
  • Supporting individuals with activities of daily living. 
  • Helping individuals connect to community resources and supports.  
  • Reinforcing individuals’ life skills, spirituality, and social and community skills. 
  • Planning and facilitating programs. 
  • Supporting volunteers. 
  • Assisting with admission and orientation of new tenants. 
  • Rent collection and other landlord responsibilities. 
  • A knowledge of local community resources and support systems and landlord-tenant relations is beneficial.  As well as knowledge about harm reduction and providing therapeutic conversation as it relates to addictions.
  • Supporting individuals to achieve their goals while encouraging independence and recovery. 
  • Maintaining a safe and healthy environment.   

 

  WHAT YOU WILL BRING:   

 

  • Post Secondary education and related experience
  • A warm, sensitive, and caring approach
  • Ability to maintain good interpersonal relationships and have a genuine interest in supporting people living with mental illness, addictions or other special needs
  • Work independently, have strong problem-solving skills, be flexible, organized, responsible, and take initiative
  • A valid “G” class driver’s license with own vehicle
