Program Supervisor- Full Time

Kitchener, ON-St. Mark’s Place

Salary: $55,400-$65,700

 

Position Description: Working as part of the interdisciplinary team, as the Program Supervisor you will be responsible for providing residents in Indwell’s supportive living program with enhanced supports that help them maintain their health and housing. Reporting to the Program Manager, you will provide direct supervision and support to program employees and volunteers via on-site presence and routine check-ins. Being responsible for program oversight, working in collaboration with Indwell’s leadership to uphold the organization’s mission, vision and values. This position will require a high level of resilience and a willingness to work in close proximity to challenging situations.

Hours of Work:  40 hours per week. Flexibility is required to meet program needs, which can include evening and weekend hours.  As the program operates 7 days a week, being on-call for 1 week every 4-6 weeks is required to support the tenants and each other on the team. The on-call rotation consists of carrying a work cell phone 24/7 for that one week, responding to urgent needs.

Duties for this position include:  

  • Supervising and supporting an interdisciplinary team of employees as assigned, providing leadership, support and direction.  
  • Conducting and documenting regular check-ins with staff and completing employee performance evaluations.
  • Responsive to the care, culture and competence needs of staff
  • Ensuring consistent and clear direction to program staff around maintaining and protecting resident health records.
  • Attention to team dynamics, and the development and maintenance of positive and professional team culture.
  • Creating and providing program schedule for all employees
  • Coordinating and performing on-call responsibilities as required. 
  • Overseeing a thorough onboarding and orientation process for new employees, students, and volunteers.
  • Participating and leading the staff recruitment process as needed, in collaboration with Program Manager and HR Team. 
  • Consistently collaborating and communicating with Program Manager to identify and problem solve around gaps in systems and processes.
  • Participating and contributing to relevant Cross Regional Teams.
  • Leading, attending and actively involved in team meetings and other agency meetings as required.
  • Keeping apprised of new research and developments relevant to your role, through workshops, journals, websites and literature and transfer knowledge back to the team and tenants in the most effective manner available.  
  • Overseeing the intake process for new residents and supporting the team with coordinating move-ins and resident welcome.
  • Support roll-out of new assessment tools to program staff and residents
  • Developing and maintaining relationships with community and health partners to support the team and residents in connecting to community resources and supports.
  • Leading, coordinating and/or participating in case conferences with outside supports.
  • Coming alongside staff and residents to achieve their goals while encouraging independence and recovery.
  • Apply evidence-based practice, influence policy and program development, identify relevant and appropriate trauma informed care that promotes hope and trust.
  • Reviewing Landlord Tenant Board process, as needed, in collaboration with the Program Manager, and representing Indwell at possible hearings.
  • Support the team / staff responses to resident complaints/concerns.
  • Administrative responsibilities such as rent collection and intake and discharge planning
  • Supporting positive team relations with Indwell facilities staff regarding program maintenance and unit turnovers
  • Maintaining a safe and healthy working environment.
  • Other duties as required.

 WHAT YOU WILL BRING:   

  • Diploma or degree in social work, social service work, nursing or a related discipline, or an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience
  • 2 years of supervisory experience in a social service setting
  • Experience working in mental health and/or addictions is beneficial with harm reduction approaches to substance use
  • A client centered approach, using trauma-informed strategies to support residents
  • A warm, sensitive and caring approach with a genuine interest in supporting a diverse population of people living with mental illness
  • Strong communication, listening, interview and assessment skills, as well as critical thinking and problem-solving abilities
  • Effective crisis intervention and conflict management skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a high stress environment, work independently, be flexible, organized, responsible and take initiative
  • Excellent written, verbal, time management and organizational skills
  • Demonstrated ongoing learning and experience around supporting diverse individuals and communities (i.e. cultural safety, anti-racist and anti-oppressive practice, etc.)
  • A commitment to interpersonal collaborative teamwork and care and continuous professional development
