Senior Associate, Impact Investing

Full Time- Hybrid/primarily working in Hamilton, Ontario

Salary: $60,000-$70,000

 

Position Description:  As the Senior Associate-Impact Investing, your focus will be crucial in managing Indwell’s growing social finance portfolio that contributes to the needs of affordable, supportive housing developments.  Currently, Indwell’s impact investing portfolio totals $34M from over 250 individual institutional and retail investors. Reporting to and working closely with the Finance Manager, your dedication will ensure financial oversight with the highest standards of accountability, accuracy, and efficiency, thus increasing the effectiveness of these resources in meeting our strategic goals.

Hours of Work: 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday.  Hybrid, but primarily based out of Hamilton main office location:  1430 Main St. E.

 

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING:

 

Financial Management & Oversight

 

  • Leading and managing all financial operations related to the Impact Loan Fund, Hope and Homes Hamilton Community Bond, and future bond initiatives. 
  • Developing and maintaining comprehensive financial reporting systems and processes, monthly reconciliation and financial administration, including but not limited to journal entries, accounts payable requisitions, preparing cash disbursements, and lender correspondence.
  • Ensuring proper documentation and monitoring of all fund-related transactions. 
  • Preparing detailed financial statements, forecasts, and performance reports for internal and external stakeholders. 

 

Fund Strategy & Growth

 

  • Collaborating with senior leadership to develop strategies for sustainable fund growth and effective investment of resources. 
  • Conducting financial modeling and risk analysis to support decision-making and fund expansion. 
  • Leading and project managing the design, implementation and raise efforts of any and all future bond raises for Indwell which will include due diligence preparation, business case creation, financial modelling, offering statement creation, pitching and meeting with prospective investors and any other duties required for successful capital campaigns.
  • This work will come with potential travel requirements.
  • On an available capacity basis, assist the Finance Manager with funding applications to federal, provincial and municipal government in support of the long-term capital needs of Indwell and its supportive, affordable housing projects, programs and developments.

 

Compliance & Risk Management

 

  • Ensuring compliance with all regulatory and legal requirements for loan and bond funds, which will include research and obtaining independent understanding of appropriate legal frameworks in which Indwell and its impact investing initiatives operate.
  • Developing risk management policies and procedures specific to fund management. 

 

Stakeholder Engagement

 

  • Maintaining strong relationships with investors, community partners, and relevant stakeholders. 
  • Collaborating with the Community & Donor Engagement team as they coordinat efforts to raise philanthropic capital.
  • Providing transparent communication regarding fund performance and progress.  

 

WHAT YOU WILL BRING:  

 

  • A commitment to upholding and modeling Indwell’s mission statement, values, and other operating standards and policies, reflecting them in all interactions and decisions
  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or related field; Master’s degree, CPA or CFA preferred. 
  • A minimum of 3-5 years of experience in finance or fund management, preferably involving community bonds or impact-focused loan funds. 
  • A strong understanding of the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (“SDGs’)
  • Strong analytical and strategic planning capabilities. 
  • Proficiency in financial management software and reporting tools. 
  • Exceptional organizational and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication (verbal and written) with stakeholder relationship management abilities. 
  • An ability to engage in public speaking.
  • Ability to be self-directed and work both independently and collaboratively within a team.
