Hamilton Apartments Program

Salary: $55,400-$65,700

Position Description: The Supervisor is responsible to lead a team caring for a various buildings within the Hamilton Apartments program in providing tenants with our Standard level of supports. Reporting to the Program Manager, the Supervisor will provide oversight, supervision and support to program employees and volunteers, care for the overall site at The Oaks and Ottawa Apartments (4 buildings), and steward partnerships for supports in the neighbourhood with a focus on Indigenous Partnerships and housing supports.

Hours of Work: Full time - 40 hours per week. Flexibility is required to meet program needs, including evening and weekend hours. Participation in 24/7 on-call schedule is required to support the tenants and team members in responding urgent needs.
WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING:
Program Leadership
- Monitoring and leading healthy team dynamics, and the development and maintenance of positive, professional team culture. Responsive to the care, culture and competence needs of staff
- Participating and leading the staff recruitment process as needed, in collaboration with Program Manager and the Human Resources Team
- Implementing ongoing evaluation of the program to ensure effective service to tenants
- Participating and contributing to relevant Organizational Teams
- Collaborating and communicating with the Program Manager to identify and problem solve around gaps in systems and processes
- Coordinating and performing on-call responsibilities as required
- Keeping apprised of new research and developments relevant to your role, through workshops, journals, websites and literature, transferring knowledge back to the team and tenants in the most effective manner available
- Maintain point person connection with partners in housing at the site, specifically with Indigenous partners Sacajawea Non-profit Homes and Hamilton Regional Indian Centre. Steward ongoing participation in MOU in conjunction with Program and Regional Manager and other relevant parties
- Applying evidence-based practice, influencing policy and program development, identifying relevant and appropriate trauma informed care that promotes hope and trust
Interdisciplinary Team Leadership
- Developing and maintaining relationships with community and health partners to support the team and tenants in connecting to community resources and supports
- Leading, attending and actively involved in team meetings and other meetings as required
- Supervising and supporting an interdisciplinary team of employees as assigned, providing leadership and direction. Conducting and documenting regular check-ins with staff and completing employee performance evaluations
- Overseeing a thorough onboarding and orientation process for new employees, students, and volunteers
Housing and Tenancy
- Reviewing Landlord Tenant Board process, as needed, in collaboration with the Program Manager, and representing Indwell at possible hearings
- Overseeing the move-in process for new tenants and supporting the team with coordinating move-ins and tenant welcome
- Supporting the team / staff responses to tenant complaints/concerns
- Supporting roll-out of new assessment tools to program staff and tenants
- Administrative responsibilities such as rent collection, oversight of rent subsidy administration, intake and discharge planning
- Fostering positive team relations with Indwell facilities staff regarding program maintenance and unit turnovers
Tenant Wellness
- Ensuring consistent and clear direction to program staff around maintaining and protecting tenant health records
- Leading, coordinating and/or participating in case conferences with outside supports
- Coming alongside the staff and tenants in care planning to achieve their goals balancing support with tenant empowerment and independence
Health, Welfare and Safety Practices
- Maintaining a safe and healthy working environment
- Using appropriate procedures when responding to emergency situations
- Upholding organizational policy and procedures
- Attending and participating in all required training to maintain and develop new skills
- Other duties as required
WHAT YOU WILL BRING:
- Diploma or degree in social work, social service work, or a related discipline, or an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience
- 2 years of supervisory experience in a social service setting
- A client centered approach, using trauma-informed strategies to support tenants
- A warm, sensitive and caring approach with a genuine interest in supporting a diverse population of people living with mental illness and substance dependency
- Strong communication, listening, interview and assessment skills, as well as critical thinking and problem-solving abilities
- Demonstrated ongoing learning and experience around supporting diverse individuals and communities (i.e. cultural safety, anti-racist and anti-oppressive practice, etc.)
- Experience working in mental health and/or addictions is beneficial with harm reduction approaches to substance use
- Effective crisis intervention and conflict management skills
- Ability to work effectively in a high stress environment, work independently, be flexible, organized, responsible and take initiative
- Excellent written, verbal, time management and organizational skills
- A commitment to interpersonal collaborative teamwork and care and continuous professional development
