Nestled between the shores of Georgian Bay and the Niagara Escarpment, Lora Bay, provides the perfect setting for golf. The lush green fairways, with tee decks ranging from 5,100 to 7,100 yards, are expertly designed to incorporate the natural terrain, providing spectacular views while challenging players of all levels.

The Mechanic for Lora Bay is responsible for the diagnostics and repairs of all maintenance and course utilized equipment.  Other responsibilities can include; training on proper usage and preventative maintenance of equipment, preventative maintenance protocols, maintain a clean and organized equipment area, assist the Golf Course Superintendent with other inspections as requested.  

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  • Create a preventative maintenance program to ensure all equipment (gas, diesel, electric, etc) is maintained to the highest of standards promoting the longest possible lifespan of the equipment
  • Educate and train management staff and seasonal staff on preventative maintenance, proper usage and cleaning protocols of equipment
  • Maintain an adequate supply of replacement supplies as to not experience outages of equipment that would otherwise affect the daily operation of the Club
  • Examine and service equipment on a daily basis to ensure ideal performance
  • Maintain a clean and organized work space that promotes efficiency and safety
  • Maintain mower blades and reels are at proper heights and sharpness as directed by the Golf Course Superintendent
  • Assist in the quality of turf cut inspections
  • In consultation with the Golf Course Superintendent, deliver short and long-term capital requests for equipment needs while sourcing best avenues for trade value on owned equipment
  • In consultation with/approved by the General Manager, develop short and long-term strategic and operational plans consistent with the guiding long-range strategic plan.
  • Ensure the security of the Club’s assets and compliance with all legal and regulatory matters

affecting the Club.

  • Establish and maintain professional and positive relationships with the municipality, immediate neighbours, associations, suppliers, consultants and contractors.
  • Sets tone for all employees and expected to not only comply with all Employer policies but ensure their direct reports understand the work standards/policies, are trained on these policies, comply with such policies, and are disciplined accordingly when those policies are not followed do.
  • Responsible for ensuring health and safety requirements set out by the Employer under the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Employer policies and procedures are being carried out properly by their direct reports.
  • Such other duties and responsibilities as assigned from time to time.
  • Execute all assignments as delegated by Golf Course Superintendent; snow removal during winter months; assist with shoveling, snow blowing, operation of plow truck and skid steer use.

COMMUNICATION/INFLUENCING OTHERS (Contacts)

This position requires in person, written, email and telephone communication with staff, colleagues, and outside third parties within the golf community. Communication is both internal and external contacts.

Will provide best efforts and skills to perform the duties and tasks as described to provide the best product to guests. Will represent and project Lora Bay in the highest regard and present themselves in a professional manner at all times.  Will strive to deliver the best possible equipment and support to promote an exceptional golfing experience.   

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE (Education, Experience, Knowledge & Skills)

 

  • 5+ years’ experience as an auto or machine mechanic
  • Proven knowledge of mechanical an electrical component of vehicles/machines
  • Working knowledge of vehicle diagnostic systems and methods
  • Ability to handle a wide variety of tools and heavy equipment
  • Maintain purchase orders and invoices for parts and supplies
  • Track record for observing all safety precautions and protections against accidents, dangerous fluids and chemicals
  • Self-starter with a result-driven work style
  • Adaptable and able to confront challenges and problems with a solution-oriented approach and a high degree of integrity.

 

SUPERVISION & BUDGET AUTHORITY

 

  • No authority to enter into any contract or agreement on behalf of the resort

 

PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT

 

  • Workshop and outdoor environments, mechanical areas, outdoors in extreme cool or warm environments in inclement weather,
  • Handling chemical materials including fertilizers;
  • Noisy equipment;
  • Potential temperature fluctuations;
  • Dust and outdoor atmospheric elements;
  • Working with and near heavy equipment;

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

 

  • Lifting (up to 100 pounds),
  • Twisting, bending, walking and movement on and within the surrounding areas of golf courses, moving up and down, carrying heavy items to different locations;
  • Frequent working around dust and outdoor elements, wearing PPE if required, working outside in inclement weather on a daily basis;
  • Must be able to stand and exert well-paced mobility for lengthy periods;
  • Requires grasping, writing, standing, sitting, walking, repetitive motions;
  • Required at times to work long hours, during the golf season, which will include weekends and statutory holidays.
