Drama and Theater Camp Counsellor (Seasonal - Summer)

The Granite Club is looking for a Drama and Theater Camp Counsellor will assist the Drama and Theatre Camp Leader with leading and inspiring young campers in exploring the world of theater, drama, and performing arts. This role is ideal for individuals with a background in theater, drama, performing arts, or education (students and recent graduates are welcome) who have experience teaching and working with children. The instructor will develop and lead daily activities that focus on acting, musical theater, improv, and stagecraft, while fostering a creative and supportive environment for campers to grow their theatrical skills.

Primary Responsibilities

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES SPECIFICATIONS 

Drama and Theater Camp Counsellor 

  • Background in theater, drama, performing arts, education, or a related field (students and recent graduates welcome). 
  • Experience leading theater workshops, classes, or camps for children. 
  • Musical theater experience (singing, choreography). 
  • Develop and lead engaging daily activities, including improvisation games, script readings, character development exercises, and stage movement. 
  • Teach basic theater concepts, such as voice projection, facial expressions, body language, and storytelling. 
  • Oversee costume, prop, and set design activities (if applicable). 

 

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

Ideal candidates will be able to: 

  • Commitment & Punctuality: Be available to work for all nine weeks of summer camp and arrive on time for each shift, ensuring all materials are prepared 15 minutes before camp starts. 
  • Camper Check-In & Safety: Assist with overseeing sign-in and out procedures ensuring a safe and organized check-in and check-out process. 
  • Professionalism & Conduct: Maintain a high level of professionalism, motivation, and energy throughout the day while modeling sportsmanship, manners, and respectfulness for campers. 
  • Instruction & Program Delivery: Learn and apply best practices for teaching camp activities, including working with campers with special needs, using inclusive teaching methods, and managing general camp operations. 
  • Camper Supervision & Safety: Assist with taking attendance before and after transitions, monitor campers to ensure compliance with camp rules, prevent accidents, and respond appropriately to incidents by reporting and recording details. 
  • Collaboration & Training: Participate in staff meetings and attend mandatory training sessions before the start of the camp. Work with fellow counsellors to plan and coordinate camp events and create age-appropriate weekly program plans for daily implementation.

 

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum grade 12. 
  • Dance and or theatre certifications, credentials and training is an asset. 
  • Valid CPR & Emergency First Aid Required.   
  • Experience working with children in an educational or artistic setting. 
  • Proficiency in a variety of art mediums and techniques. 
  • Ability to inspire creativity and imagination in young learners. 
  • Experience working with school-aged children is essential.   
  • Must be available for the full duration of the 9-week camp program and holidays.
