Job Title: Senior Trader (Wheat)
Location: G3 Head Office, Winnipeg (On-Site)
The Senior Trader is responsible to lead trading strategies for their respective commodity line. This role is accountable for developing and executing the durum marketing plan to ensure fluid pipeline execution. This role requires a deep understanding of agricultural markets, strong trading skills, and the ability to navigate the complex factors that impact wheat prices globally. Senior Wheat Traders play a vital role in driving profitability while ensuring efficient risk management strategies and maintaining strong industry relationships.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develop and maintain an export sales book
- Develop and maintain relationships with new and existing customers
- Initiate and concludes sales and commercial purchases
- Ability to identify opportunities and discrepancies within the market
- Negotiate trade terms and conditions
- Develop and implement risk management strategies to mitigate price volatility and exposure to market risks, including hedging strategies using futures, options, and other instruments.
- Continuously monitor market fluctuations and make adjustments to positions to align with risk tolerance and company objectives.
- Work with other traders and analysts to develop and refine trading strategies for wheat and related commodities.
- Develop and lead sales and origination strategy
- Lead the origination team to supply export and domestic sales
- Ensure positions are accurate and properly reported
- Ensure contracts, pricings and amendments are completed
- Ensure daily positions are accurate and fall within established position limits
- Applies understanding of risk related policies, tools and techniques to ensure optimal risk management
- Collaborate with G3 research on development and maintenance of S&D’s
- Travel for customer visits, trade meetings, conferences
- Lead and mentor junior traders in the wheat desk, providing guidance on trade execution, market analysis, and risk management.
- Ensure all trading activities comply with internal policies and regulatory standards.
- Foster teamwork, communication, and collaboration among trading teams to ensure successful outcomes.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:
- Post-secondary degree in Business or related field
- Proficient understanding of durum grade and quality specifications
- Minimum 7 years of experience in trading commodities
- Experience in international trade
- Working knowledge of cash, futures and options trading
- Knowledge of GAFTA, NGFA, NAEGA, FOSFA rules
- Knowledge of CBOT, ICE, and MNPLS
