Role Summary

The Marketing & Communications Manager plays a key role in shaping the strategic communications and marketing initiatives of Friday Harbour Resort. This position focuses on developing and executing integrated communication plans to engage homeowners, members, guests, and the public, while also delivering marketing initiatives that drive traffic, build brand awareness, and achieve profitability goals. The role requires strong expertise in content creation, media strategy, and brand management across print, digital, email, and social media platforms.

Responsibilities

Strategic Communications

  • Develop and execute strategic communication plans tailored to specific market segments, including homeowners, members, and leisure customers, ensuring consistent and cohesive messaging
  • Oversee internal communication strategies to foster a sense of community and belonging among homeowners and members
  • Manage and maintain the resort’s public-facing communications, ensuring alignment with Friday Harbour’s branding and values
  • Act as the primary liaison for media relations, including handling media inquiries, developing press releases, and hosting media visits
  • Create and edit written content for promotional materials, media releases, email campaigns, website copy, and social media platforms
  • Lead the development of messaging for special events to enhance visibility and participation

 Marketing Deliverables

  • Collaborate with the Marketing Director to create and execute seasonal marketing plans designed to attract new visitors and build customer loyalty
  • Plan, implement, and evaluate marketing campaigns across multiple channels, including digital advertising, social media, and email
  • Manage the design, development, and execution of media and advertising plans, ensuring cost-effective strategies and maximum ROI
  • Analyze market trends, competitor activities, and campaign performance to inform and optimize marketing strategies
  • Support brand initiatives to position Friday Harbour as a premier resort destination in North America
  • Oversee the production of marketing collateral and ensure alignment with brand standards

 Social Media and Digital Strategy

  • Manage and maintain social media presence across all platforms, including proactive and reactive engagement with audiences
  • Implement strategies to increase followers, engagement, and overall brand presence on social media
  • Monitor digital performance metrics and adjust strategies as needed
  • Coordinate website updates to reflect current marketing and communication priorities

 Stakeholder Collaboration

  • Build and sustain relationships with key business partners, stakeholders, and external vendors
  • Coordinate cross-departmental initiatives to ensure alignment of marketing and communications goals
  • Provide marketing and communication support for events and programming, including on-site presence when required

Additional

  • Compliance with all safety regulations of assigned tasks, and ensure a clean and safe working environment with active participation in the health and safety program
  • Adhere to all environmental policies and programs as required
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Post-secondary education in Communications, Marketing, or a related field
  • 3 to 5 years of experience in communications and marketing, including brand management, content creation, and public relations
  • Proficiency in digital marketing tools and platforms, including social media management, email marketing, and SEO
  • Strong understanding of brand identity and ethical marketing practices
  • Hands-on experience with Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) and web design tools (e.g., Canva)
  • Proven track record in creating and executing successful email, internet, and direct marketing programs
  • Knowledge of ethical marketing best practices and associated regulations, including PIPEDA
  • Familiarity with HTML, email design, and web-based tools such as Constant Contact and MailChimp is an asset
  • Experience with search engine optimization (SEO), pay-per-click advertising (PPC), and social selling tools
  • Strong project management and organizational skills, including familiarity with project management software
  • Ability to build and maintain relationships with key business partners and stakeholders
  • Portfolio of writing samples demonstrating proficiency in various formats
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Detail-oriented and capable of working with a high degree of accuracy
  • Ability to multi-task and thrive in a fast-paced environment
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and experience with desktop publishing tools

Working Conditions

  • Must be able to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends and holidays
  • Required to move, lift, carry, pull and place objects weighing less than or equal to 25 pounds without assistance
  • Stand, sit or walk for an extended period of time or for an entire shift
  • Reach overhead and below the knees, including bending, twisting and pulling
