Role Summary:

Reporting to the Marina Leadership Team, this position is responsible for maintaining aquatic weeds to a specified depth with direction from our aquatic engineer to allow for safe navigation in our water channels.  Locations where the weed harvester cannot fit, a water Weedsicle (a smaller unit attached to a work boat) will be used.  The machine is built by Aquamarine and the model is H5-200. 

 

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for maintaining safe navigable channels for boats to travel safely
  • Accountable for shoreline maintenance, moving boats where necessary
  • Responsible for proper disposal of plant fragments
  • Maintain a clean harbour, free of garbage and debris
  • Maintain a proper maintenance program to ensure longevity of the equipment as per the manufacturer suggested schedule provided
  • Clean and maintain the equipment on a regular basis
  • Map out a schedule to ensure that all areas are maintained equally and in a timely fashion
  • Assist with marina operations when time permits, including fuel dock operations
  • Compliance with all safety regulations of assigned tasks, and ensure a clean and safe working environment with active participation in the health and safety program
  • Adhere to all environmental policies and programs as required

 

Requirements

  • 1 year experience working with marine construction equipment
  • A basic understanding of hydraulics
  • Possess a valid drivers license with a clean drivers abstract
  • A valid Pleasure Craft Operators Card
  • Possession of a Valid First Aid Certificate and CPR Certification an asset
  • Previous boating experience required
  • Completion of an apprenticeship program or some high school, college or industry courses in equipment operating combined with on-the-job training
  • Must possess excellent customer service skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Detail-oriented and works with a high degree of accuracy
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment
  • Must be extremely responsible with integrity and ability to maintain confidentiality and discretion

 

Working Conditions

  • Must be able to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends, and holidays
  • Required to move, lift, carry, pull, and place objects weighing less than or equal to 50 pounds without assistance
  • Will be working outside operating machine; there is a sun cover attached to the unit; must be able to work out in the elements for extended periods of time
  • Reach overhead and below the knees, including bending, twisting, and pulling
  • Move over sloping, uneven, or slippery surfaces
  • Significant exposure to varying weather conditions
  • Will encounter hazardous materials, dangerous or toxic substances and chemicals
  • May encounter excessive noise from boat engines and equipment
  • Work area is located alongside deep water
