Reporting to the Chief Administration Officer, the Director of Human Resources will be instrumental in the planning and implementation of FNUniv’s Human Resources strategies, programs and initiatives. The Director will be actively involved with each campus and will be accountable to carry out responsibilities in the following functional areas: management of Human Resource Information Systems (HRIS), employee relations, collective bargaining, pay and benefits administration, recruitment and selection, orientation, staffing, personnel record maintenance, , performance management and disciplinary procedures, leave/disability management, employee health and wellness initiatives. A key element of the position is to strategically lead the Human Resources team while ensuring the team has operational involvement in the job duties as listed.
Qualifications:
Typically, the successful candidate will possess a bachelor’s or master’s degree in Human Resources. Eight (8) to ten (10) years of experience as a HR Generalist with hands-on responsibility for the full scope of HR activities is required, preferably in a unionized environment. A CPHR professional designation would be considered an asset. An alternative combination of relevant education and experience may also be considered.
The following are representative of the duties of the position:
- Lead the day-to-day operations of the HR department and coordinate the planning of HR services for the University. Ensure the job evaluation process is followed and implemented for all position.
- Lead and manage the full employee lifecycle inclusive of recruitment, selection, onboarding, orientation, employee development and performance management and offboarding.
- Provide quality employee relations and exceptional employee customer service to all FNUniv staff and faculty.
- Lead collective bargaining negotiations, manage grievances and arbitration; administer the provisions of existing employee contracts and agreements; provide advice to management and union officials on the interpretation and application of the FNUniv’s three (3) collective agreements.
- Act as a representative on University/Union Committees.
- Administer the pay and benefits function for all employees in the University’s applicable systems and benefits plans.
- Acts as the lead liaison between the University and insurance carriers to resolve problems and clarify benefits.
- Responsible for all Human Resource reporting including annual and sick leave and all applicable monthly Union reporting within specified deadlines.
- Oversees compliance of staff to existing HR policies and processes. Conducts periodic audits and reports findings with recommendations for continuous improvement.
- Accountable for maintaining all necessary files pertaining to Human Resources.
- Perform miscellaneous projects and job-related duties as assigned on a timely basis with clear communication and within agreed upon deadlines.
