Position Title: Senior Associate – Actuarial Inforce and Policy Tax
Reports To: Director, Individual Actuarial Inforce and Policy Tax
Department:
Individual Financial Reporting
Term: Permanent Full-Time


Work Arrangements: This is a hybrid role. You will work in our office in Waterloo, ON a minimum of two (2) assigned, consecutive days every other week, plus a fifth (5th) assigned day per month. You are welcome to work from the office more than the minimum requirement and there may be some roles that are required to work in our office more than the minimum requirement.

 

 

The Opportunity: Equitable is growing! We are looking for a Senior Associate – Actuarial Inforce and Policy Tax to join our dynamic Individual Actuarial Inforce and Policy team! We are seeking a self-motivated professional with excellent analytical skills, keen attention to detail, and a strong process improvement mindset. 

 

In this role, you will join a team that supports our Individual Life Operations team with handling policyholder queries, oversees Individual Life policyholder taxation and maintains the integrity of policyholder tax administration systems and Inforce illustration systems.

What you will be doing:

  • Provide subject matter expertise on policyholder tax and actuarial inforce policy management (including participation in projects)
  • Develop and maintain tools to support actuarial inforce business and policyholder tax
  • Answer queries on complex policyholder taxation issues and actuarial inforce policy issues 
  • Ensure calculation and rate integrity of inforce illustration systems 
  • Peer review and sign-off on illustration software specifications prepared by the Illustration System Specialists with respect to policyholder tax calculations and inforce illustration rules and calculations.
  • Review and sign-off on system changes and operational procedures and processes with respect to policyholder taxation and actuarial inforce policy calculations
  • Review and verify tax slips before submission to clients
  • Ensure exempt test processes are appropriate and applied properly for all inforce policies and recommend needed modifications
  • Review processes and procedures followed by the Actuarial Inforce and Policy Tax team
  • Recommend changes to process and procedures as appropriate
  • Identify potential gaps, omissions or activities that could expose the organization to unnecessary operational risk.

 


What you will bring:

  • University degree, preferably in Business, Finance, Accounting, Actuarial Science or Mathematics
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong negotiation, collaboration and decision-making skills
  • Curiosity about what you do
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Excel including VBA
  • Solid knowledge of SQL 
  • Solid knowledge of a coding language (e.g. Python, C, C++)
  • Focus on providing excellent service to internal and external clients
  • Ability to manage and handle multiple tasks and deadlines for various stakeholders (internal and external)
  •  Knowledge of individual life and health products is an asset
  • Knowledge of Automation Suite Tools (e.g. Pyautogui, Selenium) is an asset
  • An actuarial designation (e.g. ASA or ACIA) (this role will not receive exam support) is an asset
