Position Title: Intermediate Technology Specialist, Data Developer
Reports To: Senior Technology Manager, Data Delivery
Department:
IT Data & Analytics
Term: Permanent Full-Time


Work Arrangements: This is a hybrid role. You will work in our office in Waterloo, ON a minimum of two (2) assigned, consecutive days every other week, plus a fifth (5th) assigned day per month. You are welcome to work from the office more than the minimum requirement and there may be some roles that are required to work in our office more than the minimum requirement.

 

The Opportunity: Now is an exciting time to join Equitable! We are seeking a highly motivated Intermediate Data Developer to join our Technology team. This role will support our data warehouse vision by maintaining our on-prem warehouse solution and transitioning to our new Azure data hub platform. As an Intermediate Data Developer, you will collaborate with others to design, develop, and implement data solutions that enable data-driven decision-making across the organization.



What you will be doing:

  • Design, develop, and maintain data pipelines and ETL processes using Microsoft SSIS data pipelines.
  • Modernize existing SQL Server on-prem data sources for efficient data ingestion, transformation, and loading.
  • Collaborate with data architects and business stakeholders to translate data requirements into technical solutions.
  • Optimize and tune data workflows for performance and scalability.
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of data models, schemas, and metadata.
  • Ensure data quality, integrity, and security throughout the data lifecycle.
  • Monitor and troubleshoot data pipeline issues, ensuring timely resolution.

 


What you will bring:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • 3-5+ years of experience as a Data Engineer or similar role.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as SQL, .
  • Ability to create build and release pipelines.
  • Hands-on experience with SSIS, SSRS
  • Strong understanding of ETL processes and tools.
  • Experience in developing and maintaining interactive reports and dashboards.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD practices and tools, such as Azure DevOps.
  • Familiarity with creating technical documentation and data models
  • Familiarity with Data Warehouse concepts, such as Star Schema
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to troubleshoot complex data issues.
  • Strong communication skills to explain complex concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Ability to work under pressure in on-call situations.
  • Knowledge of PowerShell and C# code would be an asset.
  • Proficiency in Power BI is advantageous.
  • Familiarity with job scheduling tools, such as ActiveBatch or similar, is required.
  • Experience working in a structured environment with well-defined processes is essential.
  • Knowledge of the insurance industry is considered a valuable asset.
