Position Title: Manager, Credit
Reports To: Private Investments, VP
Department: Private Investments
Term: Permanent Full-Time  

Work Arrangements: This is a hybrid role. You will work in our office in Waterloo, ON a minimum of two (2) assigned, consecutive days every other week, plus a fifth (5th) assigned day per month. You are welcome to work from the office more than the minimum requirement and there may be some roles that are required to work in our office more than the minimum requirement. 

  

​​The Opportunity:​​Now is an exciting time to join Equitable as our Manager, Credit.  We are looking for an astute leader, with several years within the Commercial Lending industry, a post secondary degree, focusing on Business. This role will see you leading a dynamic team of Analysts and managing existing commercial credit within your portfolio. A strategic and analytical mindset, you will share your expertise and work closely with the Private Investments, VP to build on the continued success of our team! 

 
What you will be doing: 
 

  • ​​Responsible for overall credit management for the private placement and mortgage portfolios in accordance with credit risk policy and procedures  
  • Responsible to review and approve private placement and mortgage credit reviews up to designated limits and recommend reviews for approval above designated limits
  • Responsible for the monitoring & control program ensuring accurate tracking and reporting on performance against specific financial and other credit covenants
  • Maintain the Heightened Monitoring and Watch reports for designated credit exposures
  • Maintain peer review spreadsheets for private placement exposures
  • Maintain rating grids for private placement exposures and contribute to the development of new grids
  • Manage ongoing credit management reports and contribute to the creation and maintenance of credit risk reports
  • Assist in reviewing and updating underwriting policy and procedures for private placement and mortgage portfolios
  • Manage private placement and mortgage annual review procedures manuals
  • Assist with various administrative functions (such as annual internal and external audit information requirements) and act as a backup for funding, accounting etc. 
  • Support the Private Investments, VP in the gathering, preparation and reporting of portfolio information to support processes such as:
    • Annual and Quarterly Portfolio Summaries to the Investment Committee
    • Annual financial reporting accounting processes
    • Support of external regulatory and audit review of portfolios
    • Support of ad hoc management, regulatory and Investment Committee reporting as necessary.
  • Work cooperatively with the rest of the Investment Division on day-to-day portfolio execution, reporting and management as well as on various projects.

 

 What you will bring: 
 

  • Degree in Business, B. Com or preferable an MBA.  Extensive commercial lending experience in a financial institutional setting, preferably in a banking or insurance environment.
  • Minimum of 10 years commercial lending background in an origination or analytical role.
  • Minimum 3 years, successfully leading and developing a team
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of financial statement and business analysis as a means of arriving at a credit decision and ability to make sound recommendations.
  • Ability to compose concise and comprehensive correspondence, strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • demonstrated analytical and interpersonal skills.
  • Proven organizational and time management skills
  • Recent, relevant experience with real estate assets and lending
  • Computer literate in a Windows environment.
