Position Title: Intermediate Technical Specialist – Azure Data Developer
Reports To: Senior Technology Manager, Data Delivery
Department: Data Platform & Integration
Term: Permanent Full-Time
 

 

Work Arrangements: This is a hybrid role. You will work in our office in Waterloo, ON a minimum of two (2) assigned, consecutive days every other week, plus a fifth (5th) assigned day per month. You are welcome to work from the office more than the minimum requirement and there may be some roles that are required to work in our office more than the minimum requirement. 

 

 

The Opportunity: Now is an exciting time to join Equitable! We are growing and looking to add an Intermediate Azure Data Developer to our Technology team.

 

We are looking for a highly motivated Intermediate Azure Data Developer to join Equitable's Technology team. The role will contribute to Equitable’s Data Hub architecture vision by establishing and executing on the Azure Synapse framework within the Microsoft Azure Cloud platform, using best practices and industry standards.  As an Azure Data Developer, you will be responsible for the design, development, and implementation of data hub solutions that enable data-driven decision making across the organization. You will look for direction from the Lead developer. 

 

The Intermediate Azure Data Developer will collaborate with the Architects, DevOps members and squad team members to define target state data solutions. The Azure Data Developer will be accountable for contributing to the data solution in the Microsoft Azure world.  Working closely with current team members and business users to address data and reporting needs for the entire organization.

 

 


What you will be doing:

  • Building Data Pipelines: Design, develop, and maintain data pipelines and ETL processes using Azure Synapse data pipelines and modernize existing SQL Server on prem data sources to ensure efficient data ingestion, transformation, and loading.
  • Collaborate with data architects and business stakeholders to understand data requirements and translate them into technical solutions.
  • Optimize and tune data workflows for performance and scalability.
  • Implement data integration solutions to consolidate data from various sources into Azure Synapse.
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of data models, schemas, and metadata.
  • Ensure data quality, integrity, and security throughout the data lifecycle.
  • Monitor and troubleshoot data pipeline issues, ensuring timely resolution.
  • Stay updated with the latest Azure Synapse features and best practices.

 

 

What you will bring:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • 2-3+ years of experience working as a Data Engineer or similar role.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Pyspark, Python, and SQL.
  • Hands-on experience with Azure Synapse Analytics, including Azure SQL Data Warehouse and Azure Data Lake Storage.
  • Proficiency in SQL programming and database design principles, with expertise in SQL Server ANSI-SQL and T-SQL.
  • Strong understanding of ETL processes and tools.
  • Experience in developing and maintaining interactive reports and dashboards.
  • Familiarity with Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) practices and tools, such as Azure DevOps or Jenkins.
  • Certifications in AZ-900, DP-900. AZ-400 or DP-203 are an asset
  • Java, Python, PySpark, PowerShell, C#/.NET, Bash.
  • Experience in agile methodologies and DevOps tools.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to troubleshoot complex data issues.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to explain complex concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
