USS - Maintenance Technician

Job Summary 

This position is responsible for the repair and maintenance of rig related equipment, and performance of work associated with daily rig systems repairs and conduct maintenance on or associated equipment for operations onsite or in a warehouse environment, performs mechanical duties as needed. 

Internal Relationships

Direct communication with Rig Managers, Field Superintendents, Yard Managers, Project Managers, and other internal stakeholders.

External Relationships

Vendors, Service Providers, Subcontractors, etc.

Specific Responsibilities and Accountabilities

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential job duty satisfactorily. the essential duties for this position are listed below:

•     Repair, inspect, and troubleshoot rig related systems (electrical, hydraulic, electronic, and mechanical), and equipment at component level (pumps, engines, motors, etc.).

o     Repair or replace faulty parts, components, and auxiliary equipment to minimize rig downtime, and maximize equipment service life.

o     Plan, organize, prioritize, communicate, and coordinate work with Field Operations management (Field Superintendents, Rig Managers, crew maintenance personnel, etc.) to ensure the work is completed in a safe, timely, and effective manner.

•     Interface with vendors to source parts and assist with repair procedures.

•     Servicing, conduct mechanical inspections, monitoring performance and completing equipment maintenance on rigs and associated components.

•     When necessary, schedule and conduct preventive and elective maintenance on equipment.

Technical Competencies

•     Technical Proficiency in:

o     Electrical systems – this includes utility service entrance (in some cases), through to on-site electrical generation, power distribution, UPS and power quality and grounding (wiring & circuitry). This involves various sub-electrical systems (HVAC, energy management, automation systems, and fire and safety systems (relays, fuses and circuit breakers, electrical grounding equipment, transformers, motors and drives, wire and cable, wiring devices, and software and apps.

o     Mechanical systems – such as hoisting and rotating systems equipment, such as bearings, gears, motors, conveyors, and drives which are typically driven by electrical motors (electric motors, motor controllers, and VFDs (variable frequency drives).

o     Hydraulic Systems – proficiency in troubleshooting, maintaining, and repairing hydraulic equipment such as pumps, valves, actuators, and cylinders.

o     Engines & Power Units: Maintenance and repair of diesel and electric engines that power equipment.

o     Instrumentation: Familiarity with PLCs, sensors, gauges, and control systems used to monitor rig performance and equipment condition.

•     Safety and Electrical Codes: Adhering to safety protocols and industry regulations (e.g., NFPA, IEC standards) related to electrical systems.

•     Strives continuously to develop a greater knowledge of all the rig systems, including those that are highly specialized, but humble to ask for help or guidance when facing a difficult situation (due to lack of knowledge or fatigue).

•     Works well with all levels of the field operations structure and demonstrates willingness to share knowledge to advance the skills of others.

•     Driven and proficient at working unsupervised.

Education and Experience

•     Prior experience in oil field, heavy industrial-electrical background, plant maintenance, industrial maintenance is highly beneficial.

•     High School diploma or GED.

•     Technical School degree is a plus.

Qualifications

The position of Mechanic demands the ability to work alone.

•     Strong electrical experience and mechanical aptitude with a strong desire to learn and perform work in the field environment

•     Self-starter with the ability to work independently and exercise good judgement.

•     Excellent time-management skills.

•     Valid driver’s license with a safe driving record, and able to be certified as a US-DOT driver under Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) if required in the assigned geographic work area.

•     Good written and verbal communication skills with the ability to work effectively alone or in a group environment.

•     Lifting 50 lbs. maximum with frequent lifting, walking up and down ladders.

•     Occupational Health and Safety – Understands fully the Ensign Health and Safety program and takes responsibility for own health and safety at work as well as those around him.

o     Uses the correct PPE as provided by Ensign and guards against misuse or damage to such equipment.

o     Reports any injury incurred during the course of work, regardless of how minor.

o     Reports any hazardous situations arising in the workplace that cannot be corrected immediately.

•     Avoids injury resulting from manual tasks, by use of risk assessment, correct mechanical handling equipment and correct manual handling techniques.
