Specialist, Payroll & People – 14-month contract

The Opportunity
We are looking for an energetic Payroll professional to join our passionate and collaborative team. The People & Culture team is focused on making Corus an exceptional place to be and work, and we are responsible for providing support to our network of orthodontic practices and home office on all people related matters, including recruitment, talent management, employee relations, total rewards, and team and leadership development.
Reporting to the Manager, Payroll, you will provide support to the Payroll and People Operations team with full-cycle payroll processing ensuring timely and accurate processing. This is a temporary, full-time position from either our Toronto or Calgary office.

What You Will Love Doing - Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee full-cycle payroll processing using Dayforce with a focus on Canadian payroll.
- Responsible for processing Year-End.
- Accountable for inputs and validations during the regular payroll cycles
- Handle tax related items as they pertain to the Canadian payroll while also providing support on tax related items for our US payroll.
- Oversee all monthly, quarterly, and year-end tax obligations.
- Partner with our benefits team to ensure various deposits are done on time.
- Manage any required garnishments and required deductions.
- Act as back up to others on the payroll team for key responsibilities, including supporting US payroll processing.
- Assist with any payroll related projects and year-end activities as requested.
- Answer questions coming in from both vendors and employees.
- Ad hoc duties as required.
All About You:
- A self-starter who naturally connects with and builds strong relationships with others
- A passion for building your skills and capabilities as a payroll specialist
- Laser-focused attention to detail
- Thrives in a collaborative environment, proactively sharing knowledge and best practices to contribute effectively to cross-functional teams
- 5+ years’ experience in payroll required
- Payroll Compliance Professional (PCP) designation required
- Post-secondary education in business administration, Human Resources, or related field
- Strong customer-service mindset; focused on meeting the needs of internal clients
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- The ability to juggle multiple priorities and effectively perform in a fast-paced, start-up environment
- Excellent technical ability (Word, Excel, PowerPoint); HRIS systems experience and knowledge an asset
- Understand and maintain a high level of confidentiality and able to deal with sensitive issues with tact and discretion
