About the Role:
Global News Toronto is currently looking for an Associate Producer for a temporary full-time contract to join their team. Reporting to the Supervising Producer, the successful candidate will be responsible for chasing guests, producing segments, and creating content for a daily 3-hour morning television program. The associate producer will also support the news record sessions and airing of the show. This is a Group 2 position under the current collective agreement.
You will contribute by:
- Pitch and chase original and compelling stories for Global News Morning
- Produce interview segments, including set-ups, focus, questions, and visual elements.
- Write broadcast stories, teases, and headlines.
- Generate research that can be used in the execution of various news and interview segments.
- Monitor all news sources and be on top of breaking news and developing situations.
- Assist in communicating with, and assigning, field crews.
- Support producers and anchors in the recording sessions and in the playout of the show.
- Lend support to other Global News properties.
- Other duties as required.
Skills and experience you will bring:
- A university degree or equivalent post-secondary education in a broadcast-related field
- Two years of experience working in a newsroom environment, in an editorial capacity
- Strong news judgement, with an ability to recognize, chase and help develop relevant news content.
- Strong news writing skills
- The ability to make quick, informed decisions and handle the demands of multiple daily deadlines.
- Proficient in the use of online and social media tools, including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and TikTok
- Excellent communication skills, and a high level of comfort working independently.
- Flexibility to work overnights, early mornings, evenings, and weekends.
