ROLE PURPOSE

In this collaborative, team-centered environment, the Senior Residence Worker works in partnership with program management to ensure Cornerstone runs safely, efficiently, and effectively within organizational objectives. Acting as a consistent point of contact for the Supportive Housing Team, the Senior Resident Worker models professional expectations and provides guidance, supervision, and feedback to team members. The Senior Residence Worker is knowledgeable of the site’s emergency response procedures and proficient in enacting safety protocols. Core competencies for this role include risk assessment, crisis management and emergency responses; this position plays a key role in ensuring the safety and security of staff, residents, and the building. Under the supervision and direction of the Program Manager and Building Manager, this position participates in program development, implementation and evaluation strategies and acts as an identified contact for the building.

 

HOURS (37.5 hours per week)

 

Saturday to Wednesday, 1600 to 0000

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  1. Provides therapeutic supports to the residents of Cornerstone; maintains a safe, friendly environment and promotes healthy choices with regards to daily living.
  2. Encourage and support residents to live fully and independently as possible; provide emotional, organizational, and practical support.
  3. Have a strong working understanding of the role and responsibilities of the Tenant Support Workers in order effectively assist support staff with the fulfillment of those responsibilities.
  4. Have a strong working understanding in all safety and emergency procedures, including earthquake, fire, flood, communicable disease, building maintenance emergencies, power outage, criminal activity, critical incident etc. in order to respond safely and appropriately in critical and emergency situations.
  5. Be proficient in enacting safety related protocols and emergency plans involving staff, residents and the building, such as evacuations, muster points, contacting emergency services and/or management staff, wellness checks, critical incident reporting, delegating tasks, and administering safety equipment (e.g., from safety bags).
  6. Attend regular trainings and meetings and assist with emergency practice drills for staff and residents.
  7. Adherence to sanitation protocols, including fulfillment of cleaning duties.
  8. Assist the Program Manager or designate with orienting new residents with building operations, safety protocols, pet registration process and resident expectations as outlined in the Program Agreement.
  9. Respond to any medical, behavioural, or other issues of concern, such as investigating resident disturbances, directing unwelcome visitors to exit the building, and conducting wellness checks; document and communicate observations, interventions, and outcomes to relief staff and management.
  10. Provide program management with input regarding policies, procedures, goals, evaluation, and any opportunities for improvements to the program.
  11. Responds to challenging and, at times, volatile behaviours utilizing non-violent communication and de-escalation techniques.
  12. Provide training, direction, and supervision to Tenant Support staff, ensuring adherence to program and organizational policies and procedures.
  13. Meet regularly with the Tenant Support Team and management staff.
  14. Perform other duties as required.


QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS 

We are seeking a highly motivated individual with a proven ability to work within a fast-paced, growth-focused environment. The ideal candidate has:

  1. Post-secondary training: mental health certificate, community support worker diploma, and/or degree in human services, criminology, social work, or a related field.
  2. Minimum three years related experience working with populations impacted by homelessness, substance use, and mental health concerns and/or barriers to stable housing.
  3. Minimum one-year related experience in a leadership role.
  4. An equivalent combination of related training and experience, including lived experience, may be considered.
  5. A keen awareness of issues facing diverse communities and Indigenous people, including systemic barriers and issues stemming from colonization.
  6. Sound knowledge of trauma-informed practice.
  7. Criminal Record/Vulnerable Sectors Check 
  8. Naloxone Training preferred
  9. First Aid Certificate – Standard and CPR
  10. Food Safety preferred
  11. Knowledge of community resources
  12. Successful reference check
  13. Successful educational verification

 

COMPENSATION

As Connective is a unionized environment, the starting wage is $29.17 per hour. The wage will increase with every 2,000 hours worked up to a maximum of $33.49 per hour.

Important: Candidates must be legally authorized to work in Canada, observe their weekly hours limit if under a temporary or study visa, and provide proof of eligibility if selected for the role.
