ROLE PURPOSE

This position will manage the Bedford Manor Assisted Living Program, adhere to the Assisted Living Registration Requirements, and assist in the navigation of local health authority programs, departments and services.  The position will ensure support care staff are hired, scheduled and supervised in a way that best meets the care and philosophy of Assisted Living and all the requirements of the Assisted Living Registrar.   In conjunction with members of Connective’s Executive Team, the Assisted Living Manager accepts responsibility for the requirements of Assisted Living, the operation, evaluation of services provided, IHA contract management and quality assurance, and adheres to the Community Care and Assisted Living Act. The Assisted Living Manager is responsible for oversight of staff, liaises with government partners and participates as a member of the Connective management team.

SHIFT HOURS

  • Temporary Full Time (40 hours/ week)
    • Monday- Friday (8:30am- 4:30pm)

REPORTING AND WORKING RELATIONSHIPS

  • Reports and is accountable to the Director of Health, Housing & Employment or their designate
  • Liaise with staff, management, government agencies and members of the general public as required
  • Demonstrate a leadership style that fosters and encourages partnerships with community, agency staff, society contractors, and funders
  • Work together as a part of the management team and promote positive leadership through working with staff and other managers in a collaborative and collegial manner

 

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • In conjunction with the Executive Team, determines the staffing plan required to meet approved levels of services for assisted living residents
  • In collaboration with the agencies People & Culture department, interviews prospective employees for Bedford Manor Assisted Living program positions based on established personnel and human resources polices and strategiesLeads or participates in monthly fire drills, staff meetings, JHSC meetings, review of resident suggestion box/comment cards, and ordering of infection protection and control suppliesAbility to work with Senior Care software system of resident dataMaintains records required for resident care and support documentation, changes to care and support needs, statistical information, payroll and billing purposesTrack resident falls, move ins/outs, census utilizing all available data collection systemsMeets with Assisted Living Leaders dailySchedules staff to meet service plan requirements of residents within the Assisted Living model
  • Develops a supervisory program for each employee to ensure that performance expectations are met, and that staff feel supported and valued as an important member of the service delivery team
  • Reviews and assesses prospective assisted living residents in conjunction with Interior Health AuthorityIn conjunction with the Assisted Living Leaders, meets with prospective residents and family members to confirm suitability for assisted living and Bedford Manor and completes all new resident documentationReviews monthly arrears with residents related to rent and program tenancy and sets up re-payment plans in accordance with the agency’s housing policiesWeekly housing report and IHA vacancy and referral reportResponsible for monitoring and initiating service for the QRS System as required
  • Liaise with family members as needed
  • Ensures effective service delivery consistent with Connective’s mandate and Assisted Living requirements with policy, legal, contractual and budgetary requirementsParticipates as a member of the Management team in developing long range and strategic plans, assessing and resolving operational issues and policiesEnsures accountability to partnering authorities including Interior Health and B.C. HousingDevelop, implement, monitor and maintain policies and procedures as it pertains to Assisted LivingPerforms other related duties as required

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Function independently, while remaining a crucial member of the management team
  • Managing multiple concurrent projects and deadlines including assisting in stressful and crisis situations
  • Participate at meetings, conferences, and other events
  • Occasional travel to other communities for meetings and training opportunities
  • Handle confidential/sensitive material with integrity and discretion
  • Adhere to Connective’s policies and procedures
  • Participate in administering programs within Connective in accordance with all related contractual agreements and within the framework of the Mission Statement and Core Values of the organization
  • Be available to work flexible hours during the daytime, evenings, and weekends based on operational needs and requirements
  • Provide coverage and backfill for program managers throughout agency community programs
  • On Call, be available to all staff after-hours by being the On-Call Manager as per the on-call schedule rotation by responding to any emergencies at any of Connective’s facilities, including provision of shift coverage as per management requirements

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Previous experience in a health care setting, ideally in the home/community environment
  • Previous front line health care experience, Health Care Aide, LPN or RN
  • 5-7 years supervisory experience
  • Previous experience working with seniors is preferred
  • Understanding of the Assisted Living guidelines and Community Care and Assisted Living Act is an asset

 

REQUIREMENTS

  • Well-developed verbal and written communication, planning, administrative skills and leadership skills, including presentation skills
  • Excellent influencing and interpersonal skills with people at all levels, internally and externally
  • Strong coaching/mentoring skills
  • Criminal Records Checks
  • First Aid Attendant Certification
  • Proof of vaccination for communicable diseases may be required as mandated by Government, Health Authority, and/or funder requirements.

Compensation

The wage range for this position is $65,600- $98,400

Important: Candidates must be legally authorized to work in Canada, observe their weekly hours limit if under a temporary or study visa, and provide proof of eligibility if selected for the role.
