ROLE PURPOSE

This position will provide outreach support to client(s) referred to Connective by Community Living British Columbia. You will work to enable clients’ adjustment to and success with life in the community.

HOURS

Flexible hours based on client needs, including evenings and weekends. Program operational hours are generally from 09:00 – 17:00.

 

Casual employees must be available for at least 14 shifts per month. If you are working full-time, or if you are a full-time student, we ask you for 10 shifts of availability per month (this is subject to employer or enrollment proof).

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Works with the client, researches background material, and seeks the input of other professionals and family members, to assess needs and intervention possibilities
  • Works with the client to consider issues and agree on an intervention and support plan with measurable short and long-term goals
  • Ensures the client’s intervention and support plan addresses issues of daily living, including but not limited to housing, nutrition, clothing, hygiene, leisure, lifestyle, access, employment, and education
  • Supports clients in various environments, which may include exposure to bedbugs, animals, needles, blood, lice, human waste, hording and other
  • Interacts with other professionals, family members, and organizations to ensure services, admissions, and treatments are in the client’s interest and supportive of the long-term goals

EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

  • A Diploma in Social Services and one-year relevant experience is preferred; inhouse training can be provided for the right candidate
  • Professional or lived experience working with vulnerable populations experiencing multiple barriers
  • A demonstrated and clear ability to respond well in crisis situations

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
The physical requirements outlined below are non-specific to the position, as such, there may be additional tasks required. Reasonable accommodations will be made for qualified individuals with disabilities through our accommodation process.

  • Ability to walk up and down stairs
  • Ability to operate a motor vehicle
  • Ability to move items weighing up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to perform First Aid, CPR, and Naloxone administration
  • Ability to remain in a stationary position for extended periods of time
  • Ability to complete general housekeeping duties (i.e., sweeping, mopping, wiping areas, laundry, changing light bulbs)

REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to successfully complete a Vulnerable Persons Criminal Records Check
  • Ability to successfully pass a reference check
  • Current Emergency First Aid Certificate
  • Proof of vaccination for communicable diseases may be required as mandated by Government, Health Authority, and/or funder requirements
  • Valid class 5 driver’s license
  • Personal transportation that is in good repair, insured for business up to $1,000,000 for liability, and which can be used to transport clients

COMPENSATION

As Connective is a unionized environment, the starting wage is $26.74 per hour plus 10.6% in lieu of vacation pay and statutory. The wage will increase with every 2,000 hours worked up to a maximum of $30.69 per hour.
