The Health Career Access Program (HCAP) is a paid work and training initiative for individuals seeking an entry point to employment in health. New hires will start as a Health Care Support Worker (HCSW) providing non-direct care at a long-term care, assisted living or home health site and receive paid training to become a Health Care Assistant (HCA) upon successful completion of the program.

Please note that you must be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident to participate at this time.
 

Health care support workers are supervised by registered Health Care Aide professionals. They provide a variety of critical non-clinical, non-direct care supports to patients and residents.

STATUS
Non-unionized / Excluded / This position is open to applicants of all genders. 

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

    • Participating as an integral member of a health care delivery team
    • Establishing a caring relationship with clients, residents and families
    • Providing support and assistance with mealtime activities
    • Providing support and assistance in carrying out activities
    • Performing housekeeping duties
    • Greeting and directing visitors
    • Restocking supplies
    • Completing and maintaining relevant records

**Training format is typically full-time education with short periods of work until graduation. Applicants are hired to start employment as a Health Care Support Worker and will remain in this role until successfully completing their Health Care Assistant training program at a partnering post-secondary institution. The modular training program will be delivered over the course of 12-18 months. Education start dates at the post-secondary institutions will vary depending on location but Health Care Support Workers are able to begin work up to 6 months prior to the education start date. **

Compensation:
The wage for this position is
$24.08 per hour

Important: Candidates must be legally authorized to work in Canada, observe their weekly hours limit if under a temporary or study visa, and provide proof of eligibility if selected for the role.
