Food Services Manager (Prince George)

ROLE PURPOSE
The Food Services Manager plans, organizes, directs and controls operations across food services and kitchen operations in Prince George. Responsibilities include budgetary and cost controls with purchasing, service deliveries and inventory control of supplies. This role also assesses capacity and conducts detailed planning for service expansion as new projects and programs are added.

Exempt. This position is open to applicants of all genders.
HOURS
40 hours per week; Monday to Friday 0900-1700.
REPORTING AND WORKING RELATIONSHIPS
- Reports and is accountable to the Senior Manager of Programs or their designate
- Participates as a member of Connective’s management team
- Liaises with government and community agencies, volunteers, and members of the general public
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
Administration
- Implements and promulgates all policies and procedures, including developing appropriate manuals, brochures and handbooks
- Hires, supervises, evaluates, transfers and terminates kitchen staff and/or contractors as necessary to fulfill the program goal in accord with the Collective Agreement with CUPE Local 1936-11 and the Personnel Polices of Connective
- Arranges shift schedules, ensuring appropriate staff coverage
- Implements a system of staff and volunteer orientation, supervision, in service training and evaluation
- Ensures all appropriate daily, monthly, and annual documentation of resource staff and contractors’ files and records are maintained
- Recruit, train, and supervise kitchen staff, providing guidance and support as needed
- Assist in budget planning and controlling of costs related to kitchen operations
- Makes recommendations regarding the Food Services operating budget
- Monitors and adjusts expenditures
- Foster a positive and collaborative work environment, promoting teamwork and professional development
Programs and Operations
- Supervise and coordinate all aspects of kitchen operations, including inventory management, food preparation, cooking, and storage
- Collaborate with nutritionists or dietary experts to plan well balanced menus that comply with nutritional guidelines and dietary restrictions
- Liaises with external vendors, suppliers, and local community resources to procure food. Sources wholesale/local food as well as food donation opportunities
- Works closely with Housing and Programs management on issues/feedback related to food quality, and resident satisfaction
Health and Safety
- Sets operating standards in kitchens to ensure quality control and compliance with health and safety regulations
- Completes inspections and establishes remedial action plans for problem areas.
- Ensures staff Food Safe certificates are up to date
- Attends the health and safety training sessions for supervisors
- Participates as the organization’s representative in health and safety investigations mandated by statutory authorities or as directed by the organization
- Supports Connective’s OSH initiatives
EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS
- A university Degree or industry certification in Food and Hospitality or Nutritional Services
- Five (5) years of recent related experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
- Experience with clients with a history of conflict with the law, developmental disabilities and/or spectrum disorders, mental health and/or substance use challenges, experiencing homelessness, and interaction with social agencies
- Experience with facilitating, creating and/or running programs
REQUIREMENTS
- Ability to successfully complete a Criminal Records Check
- Ability to successfully complete reference check
- Ability to provide a record of work history
- Current Emergency First Aid Certificate
- Class 5 driver’s license
- Personal transportation that is in good repair, insured for business up to $1,000,000 for liability, and which can be used to transport client
- Valid Food Safe Level 2 certification
COMPENSATION
Annual salary will be negotiated based on experience and qualifications. This role will also be eligible for Connective’s comprehensive Exempt Benefits Package.
