Exercise Instructor (Part-time, Community-Based)
Are you passionate about exercise and wellbeing? Do you want to support seniors in your community while earning some extra money to supplement your income? Are you a student looking to gain experience, a recent retiree, or simply someone who is looking for a part-time job that feels like a hobby?
We are a non-profit organization that provides free exercise classes for seniors communities across the GTA and we are looking for people who are interested in leading these sessions on a flexible, part-time basis.
While previous experience leading group exercise or working with seniors is definitely an asset, it isn’t mandatory. We welcome applications from all who are active learners in the area of wellness and are motivated to group exercise classes in person. The goal is to help people over 65 increase mobility, relieve pain and reduce the risk of falls by building strength and improving balance.
You can sign up to instruct classes for as little as 2 hours a week and up to 25 hours a week. We have over 48 locations, most of which are in North York– and you can work at locations that make most sense to you, although some level of flexibility is required.

Job Description
The Group Exercise Instructor is responsible for instructing group exercise classes for older adult clients in the community.
We are looking for: two part-time, Exercise Instructors
Hours of Work: Minimum of 2-3 group classes a week, up to 25 hours/week, depending on your availability. Requires travel in the community (Monday to Friday only) for in-person classes. We reimburse some costs associated with travel between classes. Could be asked about availability to cover virtual classes as well.
Salary: Commensurate with experience
Locations: Exercise classes are generally held in the North York and surrounding areas.
Reports to: Supervisor, Exercise and Falls Prevention
Responsibilities
Class Facilitation & Management
• Create and lead group exercise classes in the community
• Promote health and wellness through health promotion activities and health screening
• Collect completed liability waivers for clients registered in the Group Exercise program and submit to the Program Supervisor monthly
• Collect class attendance daily and enter attendance into the program’s tracking software prior to the end of each month
• Track all new clients registered in the Group Exercise program and record them in the program’s tracking software prior to the end of each month
• Enter timesheets into Circle of Care’s payroll system weekly for managerial approval
Maintenance Management Duties
• Ensure that the exercise equipment for each class is safe, clean and in proper working order and report damaged equipment to the Program Coordinator
• Maintain the cleanliness of class areas and clean/store all equipment properly after each completed class
Team Building and Leadership
• Actively participate in team initiatives and meetings
• Build support for the agency’s vision and departmental goals/objectives by communicating, collaborating and leading by example
• Build rapport with team members to ensure a high performing team
• Look for daily opportunities to highlight the connection between overall program strategy and day-today activities
• Act as a change agent to positively encourage others and manage change
Health and Safety Management
• Responsible for identifying health and safety concerns and injury reporting
• Participate in health and safety processes and procedures
• Participate in maintaining a safe workplace environment
• Participate in all health and safety training initiatives
• Providing adequate modifications for exercises
Qualifications
• Active learner in the area of wellness, passionate about the benefits of exercising for seniors and motivated to host several group classes per week independently
• Holds an active CPR and First Aid certification or willingness to obtain
• Demonstrates appropriate and effective written, oral and non-verbal communication skills with clients, families, colleagues and the public Dynamic, high-energy individual
• Must be comfortable traveling between classes in the community by car. Access to a vehicle is required.
• Previous experience working with older adults in the community an asset
• Previous experience leading group exercise classes or willingness to learn
• Ability to work independently and effectively collaborate with a team
• Fluency in French, Russian, Italian, Cantonese or languages other than English is an asset
