IT Field Services Technician                                  (Tofino, BC - Camp)

 

By field work, we mean working in the beautiful Tofino area surrounded by mountains and ocean. This is a camp position with a private bedroom in a shared house in downtown Tofino. Your schedule is 5 days in Tofino with weekends off. You have an office in the Tofino Administration building a short walk from your accommodations.

Cermaq Canada is looking for an IT Field Services Technician to support our operations while providing great customer service to employees. You would report to the IT Systems Manager. Your primary responsibilities will be to our processing operations, remote farm sites and facilities, while maintaining communications technology and access to IT services for our employees and contractors.  The duties covered by the role will include a mix of remote support from offices, field service work and deskside support.

 

Primary Job Duties:

  • Supporting communications infrastructure and maintaining access to critical applications and services for our saltwater, freshwater and production sites
  • Providing IT support to business users (customers) with respect to the use of company hardware, applications and IT resources via phone, email, remote login and/or on-site as needed
  • Perform installation, repairs and upgrades of wired and wireless communication technologies and satellite Internet at remote sites
  • Carry out the install of technical equipment, automation and control systems and supporting structures with the use of tools in a safe and effective manor
  • Maintain detailed records of installations and configurations
  • Investigate and troubleshoot incidents and issues, while working with the wider IT team to resolve and identify root causes, and implement changes and improvements
  • Work proactively with vendors, across departments and with 3rd party resolver groups to support the wider infrastructure and services delivered to Cermaq
  • Fulfil business requests from the agreed catalogue of services in a timely fashion while maintaining customer satisfaction
  • Work effectively and efficiently capturing detail of all work and requirements through the IT ticketing system and knowledge portal and communicating professionally to customers
  • Use of analytical skills, attention to detail and ability to quickly find workable solutions under pressure
  • Offer new solutions to business problems through more effective use of technology
  • Report into the IT team leadership to receive job details and work packages and provide job summary reports as required
  • Work as part of the wider IT Services team achieving departmental and business goals

Application Requirements:

  • At least 2+ years of relevant IT experience
  • Experience supporting Microsoft 365 Services
  • Experience supporting and deploying Windows 10/11 Professional & Enterprise
  • Experience supporting and deploying mobile handheld devices (iOS)
  • Experience working with hand tools, work at height and mounting fixtures
  • Must be comfortable boating in coastal waters, working in the elements and with potential for working at heights or in confined spaces
  • Strong English communication (written & verbal)
  • Must have reliable transportation and a minimum class 5 BC Driver’s License

This is a permanent full-time, camp-based position located in Tofino, working Monday to Friday 8:00am to 5:00pm with some flexibility required for travel and events.  The successful candidate will be allowed to stay and use the Cermaq apartment during the work week, with reasonable travel to and from Tofino covered.

 

Company extended health and dental benefits are available immediately. Participation in the matching RRSP program comes after probation.
