Resident Care Manager (Temporary, Full-time) - The Waterford

Role Summary
Reporting to the General Manager, the Resident Care Manager is responsible for the coordination, implementation and evaluation of all activities relating to the day to day care of residents. Responsibilities include establishing and maintaining the delivery of high quality care and services to the residents; maintenance of occupancy including providing tours and assessments; establishing and maintaining harmonious relations with family, resident and employees; managing care centre expenses; and ensuring policies and procedures are followed in accordance with company and licensing guidelines.
*Please note this is a temporary position that will be covering a 14-month Maternity Leave.
Key Responsibilities
- Through the coordination of care services, promotes and assists in preserving the dignity and independence of the residents during whatever stage of life they are living.
- Supports the development of departmental goals and implements and evaluates outcomes.
- Ensures care centre policies and procedures are reviewed annually and revised if needed in conjunction with other BriaCare Centres and ensures that the required and established standards are maintained.
- Ensures the team documents and reports in a timely and accurate manner and in accordance with Licensing Regulation.
- Participates in the continual quality improvement of the delivery of care, collects and monitors risk indicators such as falls, wounds, errors and identifying opportunities for improvement.
- Understands and maintains established departmental budget and implements controls for expenses as needed such as suggesting inventory reviews.
- Maintains a record of inventory and equipment, including assessing and recommending the replacement of equipment for budget purposes.
- Interviews qualified personnel in order to maintain established staffing requirements and provides orientation in accordance with the site orientation program in collaboration with Human Resources.
- Reviews employee performance and regularly conducts performance feedback reviews, disciplines and/or terminates, in consultation and support of the General Manager and Human Resources.
- Assigns work and duties to the team and manages the scheduling of employees; authorizes and submits electronic payroll timesheets to Head Office every second week for payroll purposes.
- Assesses resident intake requests, taking into consideration medical, social and other care requirements. Conducts a pre-admission interview with the prospective resident and/or family member. Selects residents whose needs match the care floor profile.
- Assesses and identifies resident care needs and where appropriate, seeks approval from the General Manager to utilize the services of other health care providers and agencies to assist in maintaining optimum general and specific care for residents.
- Organizes the Medication Safety and Advisory Committee meetings and supports the Clinical pharmacist in co-chairing the meeting.
- Chairs the interdisciplinary care conferences and leads the coordination of medication reviews with Pharmacy and Physicians.
- Attend approved work related conferences and seminars to promote and maintain professional development.
- With the support of the GM and HR, coordinates effective, relevant staff in-services and continuing education programs.
- Liaises with the acute and continuing care divisions of the Health Authority, the Division of Family Practice and other related agencies in matters relevant to the Care Centre operations.
- Assume other duties as required within the mandate of the position.
Education & Experience
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing or Psychiatric Nursing. Other health professionals will be considered with related qualifications and years of experience.
- Clinical experience in geriatric nursing, including care of cognitively impaired.
- Currently registered in good standing with BCCNP.
- Minimum two (2) years of managerial or leadership experience.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Must be able to take a leadership role and provide positive support to staff and volunteers to encourage and stimulate resident health and social programs
- Must possess the qualities and attitude that respects and maintains the spirit, dignity and individuality of the residents and employees
- Able to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, in order to organize departmental operations and evaluate the effectiveness of the care centre
- The ability to establish and maintain good interpersonal relations by displaying tact, courtesy and patience with others in the workplace
- Knowledge and literacy in Resident Care computerized medication management systems (Catalyst) and electronic health records (Yardi) and Google Workspace (Docs; Sheets; Drive; Slides)
- Must be physically and mentally able to carry out the assigned duties
