Position Overview: A Casual Facility Worker moves among all Town facilities as required to provide shift coverage when needed. The main responsibility of this position is to ensure the smooth operations in all areas of our facilities, including washrooms, meeting rooms, workout spaces, common areas, offices, outdoor spaces (snow and ice removal) and a variety of other spaces.
The Facility Worker is responsible for the delivery of high quality custodial and maintenance services at our facilities with a focus on teamwork, excellent customer service and good communication. In this role, you will take the lead on keeping the facility clean, organized, and welcoming for all users. This includes extensive custodial duties, event set up, light maintenance tasks and providing exceptional customer service to our diverse clientele.
This is the perfect job for someone who enjoys cleaning and can handle the pressure of a busy shift with tight timelines. You can’t be afraid to get your hands dirty, chip in wherever you are needed, and to work efficiently to get everything done. As you develop in your role, you will be provided with the opportunity to further develop your skills in arena operations, ice maintenance, building mechanical systems and more technical maintenance tasks. You must be physically fit and able to work long periods in a cold environment, as well as to perform work of a physical and repetitive nature. As we increase our automation and efficiency, basic computer skills are required to be successful in this role.
Core Accountabilities:
- Follows established standard operating procedures for repairs and maintenance, custodial duties, building checks and event setups.
- Is knowledgeable about activities and services taking place in the Facility
- Skilled in the operation of custodial equipment, such as floor scrubbers, buffers, vacuums etc.
- Safely and effectively uses the proper tools and equipment for each task, including proper storage and maintenance of those items
- Competent in the handling, use and storage of chemicals and cleaning tools
- Efficiently accesses information in the room booking software (Intelligenz)
- Basic Microsoft Office skills
- Willingness to learn the duties of Facility Operators in all Town of Canmore facilities, and backfill their shifts when needed
- Demonstrates commitment to ongoing professional development
Education & Certifications:
- Class 5 Alberta driver’s license & 5-year Driver’s Abstract - required
- Standard 1st Aid & AED – asset
- WHMIS – asset
Experience:
- Experience completing custodial duties and working with custodial equipment and supplies – asset
- Experience completing minor repairs and working with small hand tools – required
- Able to communicate clearly and understand instructions – required
- Follows instructions well – required
- Able to work independently and reliably while unsupervised – required
- Ability to work in a team environment - required
- Able to complete repetitive tasks and conduct manual labour that includes heavy lifting (up to 100 lbs with aid) - required
- Ability to work in variable conditions including hot and cold environments – required
- Ability to work long shifts including mornings, evenings, weekends and holidays – required
- Experience in safe handling of cleaning chemicals and materials - asset
- Introductory computer skills working with Microsoft office programs (particularly Outlook), with the ability to create and edit documents, utilize calendar functions, and send emails – required
Salary and Benefits: This is a casual position. Successful applicant will be expected to work evenings, weekends, and holidays. The starting wage rate is $23.41, with opportunity for growth and pay increases, as one moves through our standard step level program.
