Position Overview: Working directly out of Elevation Place, as a Climbing Gym Technician, your primary focus will be facilitating our youth climbing programs. In this role, you will ensure participants are energized and enthusiastic about climbing while maintaining a safe and supportive environment.

 

As a Part-time temporary staff member, you will serve as the face of the climbing gym. You will play a key role in program planning, delivery, and fostering a lifelong passion for climbers of all ages. Beyond running climbing programs, you will contribute to the ongoing success of the facility by welcoming new customers, providing orientations, issuing rental equipment, conducting belay tests, maintaining the climbing wall, and supervising the gym floor to ensure safety and engagement.

To succeed in this role, you’ll need 1–2 years of experience in a climbing gym environment, including youth programing, as well as significant recreational or professional climbing experience.

 

Core Accountabilities: 

  • Is knowledgeable of recreational climbing best practices and techniques  
  • Remains current with industry standards and evolution of safety techniques 
  • Respects customers’ confidentiality and adheres to all relevant industry regulations, acts, and guidelines 
  • Manages records in keeping with Town of Canmore policies and procedures 
  • Ensures the health and safety of co-workers, customers, and volunteers 
  • Is generally knowledgeable about all Town of Canmore services  
  • Proficiently and efficiently use computer operating systems, software, and applications such as MS Office, Intelligenz, Dayforce 
  • Follows established standard operating procedures for safety and customer service 
  • Seeks out and participates in formal training to enhance workplace skills related to climbing, instructing, recreation and administration 

 

Education & Qualifications: 

  • Standard First Aid/CPR/AED – required 
  • Association of Canadian Mountain Guides (ACMG) Climbing Gym Instructor (level 1, 2, or 3) – required 
  • Other Climbing Stream Certification(s) – asset   
  • Other work at height certification – asset  
  • Hi-Five Training – asset  
  • Able to supply a drivers abstract, class 5 driver’s license – asset 

 

Experience: 

  • Able to prioritize and work under pressure – required 
  • Strong administrative, leadership, organizational, and communication skills – required 
  • Previous work experience in a climbing gym environment – required
  • Previous work experience running youth programs – required   
  • Working knowledge in Microsoft Office – required 
  • Working knowledge in Intelligenz and Dayforce – preferred 
  • Comfortable managing large groups, including children – required 
  • Proven commitment to safety and willingness to abide by all safety procedures and protocols – required 
  • Route setting experience – asset
  • Significant recreational climbing experience – required 

 

Salary & Benefits

  • Pay Range - $24.69 per hour
  • This is a part–time temporary position offering 24 hours per week
  • Start date: March 31st, 2025
