Summary:

 

We are looking for a Corporate Accountant to join our finance team. The candidate should have a solid background in accounting principles, financial analysis, and reporting, with an emphasis on corporate accounting within the real estate industry. The individual should be adept at problem-solving and work well as part of a team, communicating effectively and proactively. Responsibilities:

 

General Ledger Management:

  • Maintain the general ledger, ensuring the accuracy and completeness of financial transactions (e.g., coding invoices, journal entries, bank reconciliations, accruals, depreciation, etc.).
  • Perform account reconciliations and analyses, including accruals, prepayments, and intercompany transactions.
  • Contribute to the implementation and improvement of internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure compliance with internal policies.
  • Assist in reviewing and validating journal entries and financial analyses prepared by junior staff.

 

Financial Reporting:

·         Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, ensuring accuracy and compliance with accounting standards (GAAP) and applicable regulations.

·         Support the production of internal management reports for stakeholders and leadership.

·         Assist in the consolidation of financial statements for group entities.

 

Budgeting and Forecasting:

·         Collaborate with management teams to develop annual budgets and medium-term financial forecasts.

·         Provide variance analyses between actual performance and budgets, along with recommendations for adjustments.

·         Identify financial trends and provide insights to support decision-making.

 

Tax Compliance:

·         Prepare and file routine tax returns, including sales tax (VAT/GST) and other regulatory filings.

·         Stay informed about changes in tax laws and advise management on potential impacts.

 

Financial Analysis:

·         Conduct ad hoc financial analyses to evaluate business performance and support specific initiatives.

·         Identify opportunities to improve financial processes and propose solutions.

 

Audit Support:

·         Assist in the preparation for external audits by providing requested documentation and explanations.

·         Help address audit findings and implement recommendations to improve internal controls.

·         Maintain clear and organized financial records to ensure audit compliance.

 

Collaboration and Development:

·         Work collaboratively with other departments to improve financial processes.

·         Occasionally mentor junior accounting staff and contribute to their professional development.

·         Participate in continuous improvement initiatives for accounting tools and processes.

 

Qualifications & Competencies:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; or comparable industry experience.
  • 5 years + of experience working with holding companies and market securities.
  • Strong understanding of GAAP and financial reporting requirements.
  • Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., Yardi) and Microsoft Excel.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with a keen attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Effective communication skills with the ability to present financial information to non-financial stakeholders.
