Primary Focus
This position provides essential financial analysis and insights to support leadership decision-making, optimized resource allocation, and the accuracy and integrity of the organization’s financial data.
What do the daily responsibilities look like?
On any given day, the Senior Financial Analyst will:
- conduct first-level reviews of monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial statements, identifying trends, variances, and potential issues impacting accuracy, completeness, and timeliness of reporting
- proactively analyze cost-centre performance against budget, identify potential variances, and recommend forecasting adjustments to optimize resources allocation, collaborating with the Controller to develop clear, actionable insights for leadership decision-making
- collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather relevant information, identify discrepancies, and facilitate timely resolution to ensure accurate and comprehensive financial analysis
- review reconciliations, journal entries, and supporting documentation prepared by finance staff
- prepare the monthly salaries and benefits allocation journal entry, ensuring accurate distribution of costs across programs
- review timesheet data and compare this to the budget, flagging discrepancies and potential adjustments
- participate in the development and review of the organization’s annual budget, providing analysis and historical trend information to support decision-making
- prepare and analyze quarterly reports for external parties in compliance with funding requirements, ensuring timely and accurate submissions
- prepare accurate audit documentation and supporting analyses
- analyze existing financial processes to identify inefficiencies, recommend solutions, and drive continuous improvement
- review the weekly payment run, ensuring accuracy, proper authorization, and compliance with internal policies and procedures, and provide back-up support to the Payroll Specialist during absences, ensuring timely and accurate payroll processing
- prepare ad hoc reports and conduct in-depth analysis to support data-driven decision-making.
Is this the right role for you?
The Senior Financial Analyst will likely have:
- completion of postsecondary education in a relevant area, such as Business Administration or Commerce, and related experience in a financial reporting business environment, which is normally attained over a period of 3 to 5 years; an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience may be considered
- CPA designation or actively working toward certification
- experience reconciling general ledger accounts, performing variance analyses, and preparing and reviewing journal entries
- advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including complex formulas and pivot tables
- exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify trends, variances, and potential risks within complex financial data
- solid understanding of not-for-profit financial reporting standards
- excellent written and verbal communication skills, particularly in explaining financial concepts to nonfinance audiences
- demonstrated ability to analyze and streamline financial processes for improved efficiency
- the ability to work well with others in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
- experience working collaboratively, prioritizing, and balancing multiple competing tasks effectively
- the ability to be respectful, approachable, and team-oriented while building strong working relationships and a positive work environment.

- Experience with accounting software (SAGE 300 and SAP Concur preferred)
- Fluency in French.
