Housekeeping Supervisor (Casual On-Call)
Reporting to: Housekeeping Manager
Core purpose of the job: Supervise all areas of the department (cleaning, waste, and pest control) liaising with the client and maintaining cleaning quality standards. A customer service champion.
Scope of duties and responsibilities:
- Deliver janitorial, waste/recycling, and pest control services across the GTAP project through a diverse team of janitorial staff ensuring very high standards and excellent customer services.
- Understand the Client’s requirements ensuring all areas are maintained commensurate with the expectations as set out in the Contract.
- Encourage and motivate janitorial staff to provide a high quality service to meet the client’s needs as contained in the contract.
- Manage the scheduling of housekeeping staff to meet 24/7 operations.
- Ensure that staff present a professional image and positively represent the Company at all times.
- Investigate complaints regarding housekeeping service and equipment, and take corrective action when required.
- Take responsibility for quality control of the janitorial function by conducting daily quality control inspections of work performed in the facility providing and implementing corrective action as required.
- Ensure the collection and disposal of waste and recycling are met in a timely and safe manner.
- Participate in hiring, training, performance evaluation and maintain a current list of casual / on-call employees.
- Identify any training needs, assist with staff development and bring training needs to the attention of the department manager.
- Supervise and schedule work of subcontractors as necessary adhering to company policies and procedures on contractor management, health and safety, and quality management.
- Manage janitorial inventory and issue materials and equipment to ensure adequate supplies are maintained and the correct economical use of all resources.
- Maintain storage areas and cleaning equipment, materials and supplies in a safe and orderly manner in order to ensure the safety of staff and the public.
- Regularly conduct health and safety training and toolbox talks. Ensure that all staff are trained the safe work procedures associated with all of their tasks.
- Work overtime when required either as extended day, weekend or statutory holiday.
- Act as the onsite point of contact for the client and responds to client’s requests in a professional manner. Maintaining a high level of customer satisfaction by interacting and responding positively with clients and taking immediate actions as necessary to resolve issues.
- Assist in managing the daily, weekly, and periodic cleaning requirements of the facility.
- Assist the department manager with administrative duties such as completing weekly payroll, ordering of cleaning supplies, scheduling of waste collections, and complete monthly contractual reports.
- Comply with Company Policies and Procedures.
- Fulfil Health & Safety responsibilities by adherence to the requirements of the Company's Health & Safety Policy Statement, Manual and Safe Systems of Work
- Support and practice the Company's Quality Policy and Mission Statement.
- Undertake such other duties appropriate to the level and character of work as may reasonably be required within the Department.
- Have basic working knowledge of cleaning tools, equipment and chemicals.
Essential Attributes:
- Two years (2) housekeeping supervisory experience within a medium to large unionized public organization.
- Previous experience managing a team of cleaners and dealing effectively with recruitment and selection, performance management, absence management issues etc.
- Experience in conducting cleaning quality audits and scheduling cleaning tasks to address any quality issues as necessary.
- Well developed customer services skills and ability to cope with demanding and varied customer requirements.
- Highly flexible with good interpersonal skills that allows one to work effectively in a diverse working environment.
- Knowledge and experience in green cleaning practices.
- Ability to train staff in use of any specialized equipment.
- Ability to work under pressure and in a demanding, fast paced environment and meet deadlines.
- Excellent organizational, time management, and analytical and problem solving skills.
- Strong eye for detail and the ability to deliver and coach all team members in the moment adhering to company standards and environmentally sound practices.
- Good team leadership skills with experience in improving efficiency to deliver on own and team’s deadlines with consistency.
- Highly safety conscious work ethic encouraging and enforcing correct safety procedures/standards and ability to recognize and act in emergency situations.
- Ability to meet enhanced government security clearance requirements.
- Knowledge of Maximo - CMMS (Desirable)
