ABOUT THIS ROLE
Burlington Hydro Inc. (“BHI”) is seeking a Billing Clerk to join our Billing department. Reporting to the Billing Manager, this role is responsible for ensuring accurate and timely billing for electric and water customers, retailer settlements, and maintaining water/wastewater billing records. The ideal candidate has strong organizational skills, the ability to prioritize tasks effectively, and a keen attention to detail. 

This is an on-site position at 1340 Brant Street, Burlington, and is a unionized role governed by the collective agreement. Eligible employees may participate in our Hybrid Work from Home Program, which allows for remote work one (1) day per week.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Maintain water meter inventory records and update account information based on Region maintenance orders
  • Process new connections, disconnections, and meter changes, ensuring accurate billing for residential and commercial customers
  • Identify new residential customers requiring un-metered or flat rate water billing
  • Review and investigate reports related to zero usage, excessive estimates, and meter reading exceptions
  • Manage meter reading records, including generating trouble reports, maintaining schedules, and providing monthly cycle and book totals for the Billing Manager
  • Investigate and process billing adjustments, back billing, and corrections in accordance with Region instructions
  • Contact customers regarding large catch-up bills and high consumption as directed by the Region
  • Oversee FIT/MicroFIT and Net Metering billing, including account setup, validation of billing quantities, and preparation of payment vouchers for approval
  • Create monthly invoices for the Region and support financial documentation processes
  • Provide backup support for other department positions as needed
  • All other duties as assigned

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

  • Post-secondary degree or diploma or related experience
  • 3-5 years of billing experience
  • Electricity billing and retail settlement experience is considered an asset

WHAT YOU’LL NEED TO BE SUCCESSFUL 

  • Familiarity with Ontario Electricity Market Rules, Distribution System Code, and Retail Settlement Code
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficiency in MS Office, including advanced skills in Word and Excel
  • Excellent troubleshooting, analytical, and mathematical abilities
  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills with a professional, positive approach
  • Self-motivated, energetic, and dependable with a strong attendance record
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities under pressure with strong time management skills
  • Adaptability to change with a demonstrated interest in process improvements
