Powerline Technician Co-op Student
ABOUT THIS ROLE
We have a unique opportunity to gain valuable work experience in our Powerlines department as a Powerline Technician Co-op Student, for a 4-month term from May to August. As a Powerline Technician Co-op Student, you’ll have the opportunity to contribute as part of our team, work alongside and learn from experienced and talented professionals. Reporting to the Powerline Supervisor, you will work with a crew that is responsible for the construction and maintenance of overhead and underground distribution systems. Responsibilities will be aligned to the trainee’s level of experience and duties may include maintaining tools and equipment, troubleshooting repairs and restoration of system outages.
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
- Observe and assist Powerline Technicians by serving as a helper during various tasks and operations
- Assist with cleaning, stocking and preparing trucks for the day
- Become familiar with and work in compliance with all safe work practices, rules and regulations as set out by Burlington Hydro Inc., the MOL and IHSA, among others
- Perform safely and efficiently all line construction and maintenance work
- Be capable of operating all machinery, equipment and tools used in the performance of the work; this includes but is not limited to various aerial devices and radial boom derricks, a variety of power tools
- All other duties as assigned
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
- Enrolled and have good academic standing in the Powerline Technician program
- Enrolled with the Ministry of Training Colleges and Universities as a registered Powerline Technician Apprentice
- Must possess a valid G Class Ontario Driver’s License in good standing; DZ license is an asset
- Book 7 Traffic Control and Fall Arrest training is required
- Current First Aid/CPR/AED certification is an asset
WHAT YOU WILL NEED TO BE SUCCESSFUL
- Possess knowledge of the Occupational Health & Safety Act and WHMIS
- Maintain the physical fitness necessary to perform the duties of the role, including confidently climbing and working at heights, and being willing and able to work outdoors in various weather conditions
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including reading comprehension and mathematical skills
- Knowledge of relevant computer skills (MS Office)
- Excellent interpersonal and customer relations skills
- A good work ethic with a positive approach to work and coworkers; energetic and motivated with an excellent attendance record
