What you’ll be doing
The Vice President (VP) of Business Development will be responsible for leading the growth strategy of Buckland group of companies through the identification, cultivation, and expansion of new business opportunities. This key leadership role will focus on expanding market share, building strategic partnerships, and enhancing our customer experience, while ensuring alignment with company goals and strategic vision. The VP of Business Development will work closely with senior leadership to drive profitability, customer satisfaction, and market positioning in North America.

You will be responsible for
Customer Experience and Retention:
- Customer Experience: Ensure exceptional customer service and support, aiming for high customer satisfaction and retention while measuring, monitoring and improving delivery.
- Service Strategy: Develop service policies and procedures that enhance customer support and streamline operations.
- Client Feedback: Implement systems to capture, analyse, and act on customer feedback to continually enhance service offerings.
- Collaboration: Partner with other departments to ensure alignment and integration of service strategies.
Sales Strategy and Market Expansion
- Sales Strategy: Create and execute comprehensive sales, marketing plans, and pricing strategies meeting and exceeding company revenue and sales targets.
- Customer Relationships: Collaborate with the leadership team to align business development initiatives ensuring strategic alignment and effective execution sustaining strong relationships with key clients and stakeholders.
- Request for Quotation: Oversees, participates, and improves Requests for Quotation (RFQs) process to ensure timely and accurate submissions that align with company capabilities and client requirements, driving successful outcomes.
Operational Efficiency & Innovation
- KPI’s: Review, improve, monitor, and optimize department key performance indicators. Identify areas for continuous improvement and employee training by providing regular feedback.
- Budget Management: Oversee budgets for business development department ensuring efficient allocation of resources.
- Reporting: Provide monthly reports and insights to senior leaders and the Executive Leadership Team on the performance of the business development department.
- Innovation: Promotes a culture of innovation to stay ahead of market trends and continuously improve processes.
- CRM: Architect and optimize CRM workflows ensuring a unified approach to customer relationship management enhancing customer engagement.
- Data-Driven Decisions: Leverage system(s) information to measure the effectiveness of initiatives, customer interactions, sales pipelines, sales trends, and sales forecasts.
Marketing
- Brand Management: Develop and maintain a strong market presence, enhancing brand recognition.
- Marketing Strategy: Create and execute marketing campaigns that align with business goals and drive sales growth.
- Market Research: Conduct market research to understand customer needs, market trends, regulations changes, and the competitive landscape in the global trade, customs brokerage, and logistics industries.
- Digital Marketing: Leverage digital channels to enhance brand visibility and generate leads.
- Strategic Alliances: Represent the Buckland group of companies at industry events, trade shows, conferences, and networking functions to build brand visibility and foster relationships.
Leadership Responsibilities
- Fosters and embodies transparent communication, encourages self-awareness and growth with staff and teams for optimal cohesion.
- Promotes an environment where teams are encouraged to try new things to continuously drive innovation and growth.
- Promote a culture of continuous learning and growth by designing and managing career development programs for the department.
- Lead, mentor and provide structure to the Business Development team, fostering a high-performance culture.
- Oversees performance evaluations, compensation strategies, workforce allocation, and the organizational structure of the department.
- Collaborate with HR to design and implement departmental performance systems that drive growth and recognize top performers.
What we need from you
- Bachelor’s degree in business or a related field of study.
- Postgraduate or Professional designation is required.
- Minimum of 10 years of proven experience in a senior leadership role within the Customs Brokerage and/or Logistics industry or service industry.
- Demonstrated ability to lead and inspire teams, fostering a culture of excellence and engagement.
- Strong understanding of sales, service, and marketing principles inclusive of client onboarding, client retention, and client loyalty initiatives.
- Proven experience in designing and implementing effective sales, service, and marketing programs.
- Candidates should demonstrate a strong alignment with our company's values and culture, ensuring a cohesive and collaborative work environment. We value individuals who are not only technically proficient but also share our commitment to innovation, customer focus, and teamwork.
- Direct experience with CRM systems and workflows.
- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills.
- Outstanding communication and presentation skills.
- Demonstrated expertise in negotiation, fostering commitment, and achieving impactful outcomes.
- Highly proficient in the Microsoft Office suite, CRM software and the ability to quickly learn new applications.
- This position requires a flexible schedule. Travel approximately 50% of the time primarily to CA, US, and MX.
- Must be legally eligible to work for the Company at all times.
