Position Overview
We require an Assistant Controller who will work closely with the Controller to assist with general accounting tasks and lead the accounting team. The Assistant Controller will assist the Finance Departments with processing/recording transactions, updating the ledgers, assisting with audits or factchecking, maintaining budgets, and, supervising direct reports.
Salary: $80,000 - $90,000 yearly
Shifts: Full-time, Permanent
Location: Calgary
Key Responsibilities:
- Accounting
Standard: Ensure accurate and timely processing of A/R, A/R, payroll and GL entries.
- Assist Controller in the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual closings
- Assist in financial and tax audits, general ledger preparation
- Responsible for the balance sheet reconciliations
- Update financial data in databases to ensure the accuracy of the information
- Responsible for bank and credit card reconciliations
- Assist with the budgeting process
- Review and submit GST returns
- Review monthly EFT payables for multiple companies
- Reconcile the intercompany accounts, and work with the Controller on any discrepancies
- Assist with cash flow forecasting
- Research accounting issues
- Other duties as assigned
- Team Lead
Standard: Lead the Construction/Development accounts payable team
- Supervise and be responsible for the daily tasks and of the Accounts payable team along with the staff accountant
- Assist with complex coding or billing issues
- Responsible for probation and annual review of direct reports.
- Review professional development with the accounting team annually
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. CPA (Certified Public Accountant) is preferred.
- 2+ years’ experience in a senior accounting role.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP.
- Proficient in accounting software (e.g. QuickBooks) and Microsoft Excel.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
- A solid understanding of internal controls and compliance standards.
- Detail-oriented approach to ensure accuracy.
- Ability to adapt to a fast-paced environment and work well under pressure.
