Machinist Team Lead

The Machine Shop is responsible for using machine tools to make or modify parts, primarily metal parts used to build Aspen’s trailers. The Team Lead is a working role. They are a competent, knowledgeable Machinist with the ability to coach, train and lead a team of 5-8 team members on various shifts. The Team Lead has a strong background in HAAS CNC Milling and Turning (with live tooling) including all set-up and programming tasks.
Main Responsibilities
- Ensure that the team members in the Machine Shop are mentored, coached and trained to work efficiently and safely.
- Do quality checks on completed work and closing Machine Shop operations within the ERP system.
- Ability to multi-task with strong time management skills to ensure the efficient running of the Machine Shop.
- Sets-up and operates HAAS CNC Milling and turning Centers.
- May assist with conventional equipment (lathe and/or mill) for fabrication of metallic and non-metallic parts.
- Reads and interprets blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, specifications, or sample parts to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished work pieces, sequence of operations and setup requirements.
- Starts and observes machine operation to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining and adjusts machine controls as required.
- Compute dimensions and tolerances and measure and lay out work pieces.
- Verify dimensions of products for accuracy and conformance to specifications using precision measuring instruments.
Secondary Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain a regular cleaning schedule to ensure the machine shop is kept tidy and well organized upon completion of work assignments.
Attributes and Skills
- Good communication with co-workers in a collaborative team environment.
- Crane operation.
- Working knowledge of metals, identification, mechanical properties, and machinability.
- Proficient with reading & interpreting manufacturing drawings, Imperial dimensioning systems & symbols.
- Proficient with Math and Geometry from the machinist trade.
- Versed in troubleshooting and debugging manufacturing processes.
- Assist as required with machine lock outs and preventive maintenance of the automated cell components.
- Organizational and planning skills.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.

Physical Requirements
- Physically fit and able to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Standing on your feet for a long period of time.
- Have good eye to hand coordination.
- Be able to bend, crouch and kneel for extended periods.
- Ability to wear personal protective gear most of the day.
Working Conditions
- 99% working indoors in a temperature controlled, well maintained facility
Shift Availability
- Days - Monday – Friday 7:00am – 3:30pm
