A typical day for a Senior Project Manager

  • As a Senior Project Manager, you will play a crucial role in supporting project management activities within our organization. You’ll collaborate with project teams, maintain project documentation, and contribute to the successful execution of projects. Your attention to detail, technical skills, and effective communication will be essential in this role. 

 

  • Your typical day involves working with internal and external stakeholders to manage and track projects and the corporate portfolio. This role works with all levels of the organization to ensure that corporate projects are well managed.

Responsibilities of the Senior Project Manager

  1. Lead activities to support operational requirements and initiatives, ensuring alignment with Corporate/Divisional/Branch core business goals and objectives.
    • Provide senior-level business information, expertise and support, including business technology planning, organizational process development, and project management.
    • Ensure those impacted by business and technology changes are involved and fully understand the process by conducting meetings for new and affected business processes.
  2. Translate business requirements into actionable plans for systems development, ensuring program objectives, business rules, organizational policies and user needs are addressed.
    • Lead analytical and business support to various projects through research, statistical, and financial analysis. The incumbent requires competence in the broad spectrum of skills necessary for policy analysis and is required to handle confidential information sensitively, work under minimum supervision, and have a high degree of decision-making autonomy.
    • Assess proposed business opportunities for the viability of effectiveness and develop, evaluate, and research business cases.
    • Lead working groups providing a consultative service for program and system development or enhancements.
  3. Project Management – Drawing on the knowledge of business and client needs, business process design and project experience, support project management from inception to completion to ensure improved program/service delivery aligns with the business strategic plans.
    • Lead cross-departmental teams to deliver technology projects from initiation to successful completion, ranging from essential software & infrastructure upgrades to transformative enterprise-wide implementations.
    • Collaborate effectively with internal & external project team members and stakeholders
    • Monitor the project's overall health against expected results, identify issues, and recommend actions.

 

  1. Provide senior project leadership services, including business and IT planning, project and program budgeting, project delivery, and business case development.
    • Provide expertise and support for identifying, developing, implementing and enhancing existing applications used by internal and external users.
    • Understand client organizations' business needs and goals and support developing and designing business solutions to simplify, improve, automate, and/or implement business operations.

 

 What you Bring

  • You will bring your wealth of knowledge in project delivery, portfolio management and reporting, and process improvements.
  • University degree or diploma with four years of directly related experience. Relevant experience in roles requiring project/portfolio management, resource and risk analysis, financial project management, and metrics reporting.
  • Experience with project portfolios in an information services or technology organization.
  • Certified associate project management (CAPM) or project management professional (PMP) certification is highly preferred
