Salary Range:   $54,935.00 - $81,398.00

A typical day for the Payroll Specialist

  • The Payroll Specialist is an integral part of the Human Resources team and guides employees and managers in the areas of payroll and pensions.
  • This position ensures on-time and accurate processing of semi-monthly payrolls for all employee groups, including union and non-union employees.
  • The individual is also responsible for processing off-cycle payrolls for the executive team or as needed.
  • As an essential Human Resources team member, this position provides interpretations of external legislation, internal policies, and our Collective Agreement.
  • This position administers our internal general illness leave (short-term leave) and leaves such as vacation, personal leave, long-term disability, and WCB claims. It also requires managing employee pension eligibility and maintaining the plan members.

What you bring

  • Diploma with 3-5 years of directly related payroll experience or a certificate with 5-7 years of directly related payroll experience
  • Confident with payroll practices in Alberta is essential
  • Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) certification is an asset
  • Experience with public sector pension plans is an asset
  • Advanced skills in Excel, including the use of formulas and pivot tables
  • Excellent communication skills, including report writing, verbal, interpersonal, and coaching abilities
  • Strong knowledge of the Dayforce system – preferably all modules as we are utilizing or implementing the majority of what is available
  • Resourceful when it comes to problem-solving and system workarounds
  • Knowledge of pension preferred
  • Can work independently as well as on a team
  • Excellent time management skills
