About the role 

The Metallurgical Laboratory Technician performs a variety of metallurgical and mineral processing laboratory tests for characterization and benefaction of various ores in support of the mining industry. Technician will work safely and meticulously to generate quality focused lab results for reporting to clients. Previous related experience required.

 

Responsibilities 

 

  • Perform laboratory scale metallurgical testing including Froth Flotation, Roasting/Calcination, Leaching, Gravity Concentration, Magnetic Separation, etc.
  • Conduct comminution testing including work index and drop weight testing.
  • Crush, grind, pulverize, blend and split samples as required for further testing and analysis.
  • Wet and dry sieve samples for particle size analysis.
  • Record laboratory data, observations, maintain logs, forms, and electronic spreadsheets.
  • Conduct laboratory wet chemistry methods including solution preparation/dilution, reagent preparation, solution filtration, and colorimetric and potentiometric titrations, etc.
  • Operate, calibrate and maintain precision laboratory equipment including balances, pH/electrochemical meters, laser particle size analysers, etc.
  • Complete other mining related support lab test work such as ASTM materials testing.
  • Adjust and maintain mechanical equipment as needed on laboratory crushers, mills, etc.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment by complying with all safety requirements, policies, and regulations.
  • Follow standard methods and established procedures to ensuring analytical quality.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

 

About you 

 

  • Detail oriented individual with a strong commitment to quality.
  • Organized, highly motivated, and able to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Math and Chemistry knowledge preferred.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Excel, strongly preferred.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Word, Outlook, and SharePoint.
  • Experience with LIMS software beneficial.
  • Experience with basic mechanical maintenance beneficial.
  • Experience with forklifts operation beneficial.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively in English (written and verbal).

 

 

Required Qualifications

  • 3 to 7+ years of experience in a combination of:
  • Metallurgical/Mineral Processing Laboratory experience, highly preferred, and/or
  • Assay Laboratory experience, and/or
  • Technical experience at a related mineral processing, mining or similar industrial field.
  • Able to lift 50 pounds.  Manual dexterity to perform repetitive tasks.
  • Wear issued personal protective equipment (PPE) as required including safety glasses, gloves, safety toed shoes, lab coat/coveralls, half and full-face.
  • Ability to stand for a full shift.
  • Ability to sit at a desk for general office work, including periodic sedentary responsibilities.
