About the role 

 

On-site | Full-time

 

The Maintenance Technician will be responsible for performing routine maintenance tasks, assisting with repairs to four buildings and the surrounding property, and ensuring the cleanliness and functionality of our facilities. This role requires contractor management experience. 

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform routine maintenance tasks such as changing light bulbs, fixing minor plumbing issues, painting, repairing common equipment and other basic carpentry tasks.
  • Assist senior technicians with more complex repairs and maintenance projects.
  • Assist in the maintenance of lab equipment (I.e. replacing air and water filters, cleaning scrubber nozzles, and lubricating bearings) 
  • Conduct regular inspections to identify and address potential issues.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of maintenance areas and tools.
  • Respond promptly to maintenance requests and ensure timely resolution.
  • Document maintenance activities and report any major issues to the manager.
  • Perform clerical tasks such as maintaining maintenance logs, filing reports, and updating records.
  • Coordinate with external contractors for specialized repairs and maintenance projects.
  • Monitor contractor performance to ensure compliance with company standards and safety regulations.
  • Maintain general upkeep of the property, addressing slip and trip hazards in frequently used areas and walkways.
  • Oversee waste management, ensuring proper disposal and recycling practices are followed.
  • Operate a forklift to transport waste bins, pallets, and other materials as needed.
  • Purchase and transport building materials and maintenance supplies as instructed.
  • Use correct methods in accordance with ALS standards and schedules, while ensuring analytical quality.
  • Adhere to ALS health and safety regulations to maintain a safe work environment, following company policies at all times.
  • Report any hazards or unsafe acts to the manager. This includes observations of contractors not following ALS safety protocols or behaviour contrary to ALS values.
  • Other duties as assigned. 

About you:

  • Custodial, trades and contractor management experience an asset.
  • Basic knowledge of maintenance procedures and equipment.
  • Ability to use hand and power tools effectively.
  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
  • Good communication and teamwork abilities.
  • Excellent English communication skills (written and verbal).
  • Working knowledge of MS Office, specifically MS Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Physical stamina and ability to lift heavy objects.
  • Forklift certification or willingness to obtain one.

Required Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Recognized college or degree preferred, or relevant certifications in maintenance, such as, Certified Maintenance & Reliability Technician (CMRT).
  • Valid Canadian driver’s license with clean driving history required.
  • Forklift license and experience operating a forklift an asset (on site certification will be required).

Physical Demands

  • Ability to sit and/or stand for long periods of time,
  • Ability to lift to 50 pounds,
  • Extensive walking or movement, bending, kneeling, and working with machines,
  • Comfortable in environments with high noise levels,
  • Manual dexterity to perform repetitive tasks.

  • An estimated hourly pay ranging from $22.98 - $24.47 at the time of posting. Individual compensation is determined by factors such as job-related skills, relevant experience, education and/or training.
