About the role
This position is responsible for the analysis, data processing and reporting of data from the HRMS and GC/MSMS systems. On a daily basis, this person is responsible primarily for the analysis of routine analytical methods, including the assessment, coding, and reporting of analytical data, and instrument maintenance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Able to analyse samples for routine organic chemistry parameters with input from others;
- Perform routine maintenance to ensure that assigned HRMS or GC/MSMS instrumentation is in good working order;
- Data processing, review and reporting (LIMS and Excel) for a variety of instrument methods;
- Evaluate data and trouble-shoot problems with the data/extraction/analysis;
- Organize workload to meet Turn around Times (TAT’s) and hold times. Must be able to prioritize and multitask as many tests are run daily;
- Communicate with team lead and direct supervisor regarding workload, as required;
- Ensure the quality of the analytical data meets ALS standards;
- Use correct methods in accordance with the established procedures and schedules while ensuring analytical quality;
- Carry out all required record-keeping and documentation;
- Maintain spare instrument parts in good working order;
- Assist in standard-making for the assigned analytical method;
- Assist in other analytical sections of the lab as required;
- Ability to work in a fast paced environment;
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment;
- Work in accordance with the established health and safety policies and procedures and the Occupational Health and Safety Act;
- Other duties as assigned.
About you:
- Well organized, able to prioritize and multitask;
- Strong attention to detail;
- Highly motivated with a positive attitude and strong work ethic;
- Ability to work in a team;
- Must be capable of working with minimal supervision;
- Excellent English communication skills (written & verbal);
- Moderate experience with Excel and Microsoft Word;
- Ability to work to deadlines in a fast paced environment.
Required Qualifications:
- 2 or more year(s) of extensive lab experience, including at least one year processing data;
- Completion of technical diploma or B.Sc. degree in chemistry or related field;
- Intermediate experience with Excel and Microsoft Word;
- Requires at least one year GC-MS experience.
Physical Demands:
- Ability to lift up to 30lbs and carry for short distances;
- Manual dexterity to perform intricate and/or repetitive tasks;
- Wear issued personal protective equipment (PPE) such as dust masks, gloves etc., when required;
- Ability to stand or sit for a full shift;
- You may be exposed to unpleasant odours;
- Please note that ALS operates 24/7 and will require day, afternoon, and weekend shift work including weekends.
