Tool and Die Maker Journeyman - L
JOB SUMMARY
The Tool and Die Maker assists the Tool room manager and Tool room supervisor in the continued success of press and equipment operation at AFP. The tool and die maker will work with the engineering and operations teams in creating and reviewing tooling prints along with end product assembly drawings and needed hardware to produce end products. Their primary job roles and responsibilities are listed below.
JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITES
•Operates and programs CNC and various cutting machines.
•Operates and maintains multiple machine tools such as but not limited to: manual mills, lathes, CNC mills, CNC lathes, grinders, drill presses, saws, welders.
•Operates and maintains measuring instruments such as but not limited to: height gauges, depth protractors, micrometers, scales and calipers.
•Creates sketches and interprets blueprints and schematics for the machining and/or maintenance of tooling needs.
•Builds, repairs, maintains and/or duplicates various die/tooling and/or die/tooling details used in production processes in an effort to enhance efficiency and quality.
•Troubleshoots tooling and die problems, performs basic repairs to the tolerances needed to keep tooling and equipment operating at optimum levels of efficiency and quality.
•Maintains a clean and safe work environment by adhering to established safety policies and procedures, as well as wearing all appropriate personal protective equipment.
•Assists with preventative maintenance on all press tooling, assembly dies, and other related production fixtures.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY
•Assist with CNC and Machinist training.
•May be called upon to be the leader of shift activities in the tooling department as needed.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
•Experience working with injection molds.
Experience with Power Mill and Fusion 360
•Experience with CNC machinery (Hass, YCM, Sharona).
•Experience with Fanuc and Hass controls for CNC machines.
•Ideally experience with rubber and plastic injection molding.
•Ability to read and write English.
•Some computer experience an asset.
•Some CAD and design experience.
•Good problem solving skills related to tool and die components.
•Ability to work with other people as part of a team.
•Formal tool and die machining courses, certifications, or degree is a asset.
TRAINING/SKILLS
•Good mechanical skills and aptitude.
•Computer skills with excel and word usage a plus (can provide training).
•Good communication skills.
