Part Time Term Position
Indigenous Studies program at FNUniv is seeking four Research Assistants with ability to write in Plains Cree using SRO for approximately 100 hours starting January 2025 to Dec 2025. Successful candidates must be able to work independently to transcribe archival Plains Cree stories and into SRO.
Experience with Plains Cree online courses is required in a non-student role such as a teaching assistant, marker, instructional designer etc.
This position is ideally suited for an individual with an interest in Plains Cree Indigenous Language. The Research Assistant must possess computer literacy and willingness and ability to learn translation software.

Key Duties:
- Research assistants will be supplied with Cree digital audio recordings and English translation and tasked with creating SRO transcript following accepted spelling conventions.
- Maintain communication with supervisor to share progress. Draft transcriptions will be reviewed and corrected by language instructors.
- Work independently.
Key Competencies:
- Must possess competence in Plains Cree language including writing and reading in SRO. Completion of FNUniv Introductory and Intermediate Cree language courses (or equivalent) required.
- Possess excellent attention to details and a dependable work ethic.
- Ability to work independently.
- Must have access to laptop or desktop computer. Competency in word-processing. Ability to learn to use translation software.
Qualifications:
- Successfully completed or be enrolled in Intermediate Cree Language course.
