The Opportunity
This Calgary-based role combines strategic analysis with commercial initiatives within the Pipeline business unit. This position requires a strong understanding of energy market dynamics and industry activities, coupled with the ability to evaluate new business opportunities. The position will play a key role in supporting and shaping decisions to drive revenue growth.
Key Responsibilities
Reporting to the Manager, Commercial and working closely with Operations as well as multiple stakeholders around the organization, the key responsibilities will include:
- Proactively provide research support for commercial opportunities and management on industry, peer, and other developments related to diluent (condensate) and crude markets, and the petrochemical industry
- Develop concise and efficient economic models to support existing commercial business and evaluate business development opportunities. This will include key market data like pricing trends, supply and demand dynamics, and regulatory changes in addition to the application of commercial frameworks
- Assess projects both qualitatively and quantitatively by verifying strategic fit, key commercial drivers, and financial returns
- Prepare and support presentation slides, key messaging, and customer communications as well as recommendations on analysis conducted
- Support various business unit stakeholders including management, in areas related to organizational and industry growth initiatives
- Ensure proactive communication with leaders and stakeholders, keeping them informed on issues, progress, and status
Qualifications and Experience
Education:
- Undergraduate or graduate degree in Finance, Business, Mathematics, or Engineering
Experience:
- Minimum 3-5 years related experience in the financial, upstream or midstream energy industry
- Excellent writing, presentation, communication, and interpersonal skills to interact with numerous stakeholders
- Must be a self-starter with strong customer service skills, problem-solving acumen, and high attention to detail
Skills:
- Expertise in reviewing and developing financial and economic models
- High proficiency in the Microsoft suite of programs, mainly Excel and PowerPoint
- Previous experience in commercial, business development or strategic planning is an asset
- Ability to work independently with good judgement and manage multiple deliverables on tight deadlines
