How you will contribute as part of the TRCA team:
The Head Camp Counsellor is responsible for coordinating the daily operations and interactive program development and delivery of activities of camps for various age groups within TRCA’s portfolio of facilities and sites.
Major Responsibilities:
- Develops and leads interactive and engaging camp programs for summer camp groups of all ages and abilities
- Provides supervision of campers to ensure compliance with camp rules and prevent accidents
- Coordinates the daily preparation, schedule and clean-up of camp programs, ensuring proper use of camp facilities and equipment
- Reports and records any incidents, such as accidents or rule violations, to senior camp staff
- Provides support to junior staff related to position activities
- Responds to minor to moderate level parent concerns, while escalating severe concerns to Supervisor
- Provides guidance and training to team members on a regular basis, working with the supervisor to align workload and tasks
What will you need to succeed:
Education (degree/diploma/certifications)
- Minimum pursuing a post-secondary diploma or degree in a related field
- Valid Standard First Aid & CPR/AED Level C Certification
- Successful completion of a Vulnerable Sector Screening. Employees/candidates under the age of eighteen (18) years are not eligible to have a VSS, therefore will not be required
Experience
- 2+ years of previous camp experience or working with children in a group setting
- Experience developing age appropriate, engaging, and interactive programs and activities
- Experience in overnight camp setting
Knowledge/Skill/Ability
- Strong communication skills to provide clear and concise communication in both non-emergency and emergency situations
- Demonstrated ability to proactively identify problems in a timely manner, seeking the appropriate level of support to solve issues
- Excellent organization and time management skills
- Ability to work independently and co-operatively as part of a team
- Must be flexible to work all required shifts, including evenings, weekends and holidays
- Support overnight supervision of campers
- Must be available to stay on-site (including overnight) for the duration of the contract (dependent on location)
