OUR TEAM

Our Airside Services Crew includes Airside, Groundside and Mobile Services. We are looking for a Lead Hand that can work in the fast-paced, operationally critical and exciting environment of our airport’s backyard. This passionate group strives to ensure our airport’s surface maintenance, including runways, taxiways, aprons and roadways are well maintained for seamless operations. Whether it’s working together to maintain hard surfaces during snowstorms or painting during planned maintenance in order to meet standards, there is never a dull moment with this team.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

You will bring solid leadership skills to our crew of Airfield Equipment Operators and foster a collaborative and approachable working environment. Your strong time management and resource management skills will contribute to your success as the Lead Hand.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

Reporting to the Manager, Airfield & Mobile Services in our division, the overall responsibilities of this safety-sensitive role include:

  • Deploy and direct the work priorities of a team of Airfield Equipment Operators in accordance with the operations and maintenance program.
  • Responsible for the day-of oversight and productivity outcomes of the Airfield Equipment Operators
  • Responsible to ensure the completion of daily, weekly, seasonal work plans as determined by the Airfield Technical Inspector
  • Deploying and directing work priorities of individual Airfield Equipment Operators in alignment with each individual’s training, proficiency and development plan
  • Responsible to address and document Airfield Equipment Operator training and performance progression, and any behavioral concerns
  • Carry out other Airfield Equipment Operator duties as required
  • Operate various types of equipment during snow removal
  • Ensure the operational maintenance of heavy equipment and shop area to standards as set by General Manager and/or Director
  • Prepare a variety of relevant reports and conduct field inspections
  • Support the coordination and management of contractors as required
  • Coordinate a variety of other maintenance on demand and project work as required
  • Assist with general events
  • Assist with training and mentoring of the crew

 

WHAT YOU BRING

  • Proven ability to lead, supervise, train and mentor a team
  • Ability to build and maintain positive and respectful working relationships
  • Valid Class 1 or Class 3 driver’s license with air brake endorsement with less then 8 demerits
  • Ability to effectively deploy teams to achieve day-of maintenance and operations program requirements
  • A minimum of 3-5 years experience in airport operations and/or a leadership role
  • Ability to navigate a fast-paced work environment and make critical decisions
  • Meet requirements of acting in a safety-sensitive position
  • Ability to interpret and apply regulations in a practical manner
  • Ability to work a rotating shift schedule and be on call
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a valid Airside Vehicle Operator’s Permit (AVOP) and a Restricted Area Identification Card (RAIC)
  • Basic Microsoft computer skills including but not limited to-Outlook, teams, forms, word, excel and power point.

 

WHAT ELSE

  • Thorough knowledge of AVOP, airfield radio operations, and FOD reporting and control techniques
  • Thorough knowledge of airfield operations and maintenance including heavy equipment operation, general airfield maintenance and snow and ice control
  • Thorough knowledge of winter runway condition reporting and mechanical and/or chemical maintenance techniques
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Transport Canada Aviation Regulations and Provincial Transportation Regulations
