WHAT YOU WILL DO

This role is responsible for acting as the dedicated primary financial and analytical business partner for the areas of the business which are responsible for service delivery and capital projects relating to August 5th hailstorm. This business partnership role will broadly involve supporting the insurance claims relating to property damage and business interruption, reporting to various stakeholders including the ELT, SLT, and AON (external insurance claim support).

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

  • Financial Analysis and Communication: Engage with business partners to understand their operations and initiatives. Lead discussions to review financial performance of capital projects. Perform variance analysis to support the preparation of internal management reporting.
  • Reporting Integrity: Review cost entries to ensure accurate allocation of soft costs to the relevant capital projects. Support the maintenance of the Business Unit reporting segment to ensure G&S and capital costs are appropriately coded.
  • Insight Extraction: Thoroughly analyze reports to extract relevant insights and flag items of concern.
  • Forecast Preparation: Collaborate with business partners and review actual data from previous periods to ascertain methodologies to use for submission for The Authority’s business interruption claims.  This individual will work with the insurance companies on providing requested support, back-up and data to support the claim submitted. As a few methodologies can be used, this modelling will be considered complex in order to ensure that the claim submitted is for maximum reimbursement.
  • Conduct regular meetings to discuss potential forecast changes, collect and verify information from team members, and maintain detailed forecast models.
  • Special Studies and Deep Analysis: Conduct detailed analyses of large datasets to derive business insights, improve financial and operational efficiency, and support special studies on various topics.
  • Research and analyze reconciliations for many vendor accounts relating to capital projects in response to the hailstorm project (currently have 10 vendors on site)
  • Review invoices relating to the hailstorm capital projects and applicable disbursements before approval.
  • Submission of payment request to the insurance companies
  • Preparing and submitting insurance claims (monthly) to ensure expenditures incurred as considered appropriate against the Authority’s insurance policies

WHAT YOU BRING

  • Bachelor Degree of Commerce in Accounting or Finance.
  • At least 6 years of related experience in a financial analyst or accountant capacity.
  • Possess additional certifications such as CPA (Chartered Professional Accountant), with expertise in modelling and in financial and data analysis.
  • Proficient in fundamental accounting principles including debits, credits, and accruals, essential for accurate financial record-keeping and reporting.
  • Intermediate understanding of ASPE and IFRS.
  • Ability to prepare reconciliations for insurance claim submissions
  • Skilled in analyzing financial performance by comparing actual results to budgeted figures and identifying reasons for variances.
  • Proficient in applying statistical and mathematical techniques to analyze financial data and support business decision-making.
  • Capable of analyzing and providing insights on various business functions, including marketing and human resources, to support holistic business strategies.
  • Expertise in complex Excel functions, including Lookups, Index, Indirect, and SUMIFS, with advanced skills in array formulas, named ranges, pivot tables, data filtering, and Excel tables for comprehensive data analysis and management.
  • Solid understanding of relational database concepts including primary keys, indices, data types, and relational dependencies.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint, with skills in document creation, email management, and presentation design.
  • Skilled in handling and processing text files for data extraction and manipulation.
  • Knowledgeable in techniques for extracting data from websites for analysis.
  • Familiar with financial systems such as Oracle for financial management and reporting.
  • Ability to work independently and in teams and meet tight deadlines.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a restricted area identification card (RAIC)
