POSITION SYNOPSIS AND PURPOSE:
This non-union position, under the direct supervision of the Manager of Marketing & Communications, is responsible for supporting marketing activities associated with all areas of the St. Thomas Economic Development Corporation (EDC), including the Horton Farmers’ Market, the Elgin-St. Thomas Small Business Enterprise Centre, Railway City Tourism and the St. Thomas Downtown Development Board, along with other areas as defined at the time.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES/ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Digital Content & General Marketing Functions (40%)
- Creates engaging and relevant content for the organization's social media and other online platforms under the direction of the Marketing and Communications Manager.
- Assists in planning and drafting of posts for 3-4 distinct channels to maintain a consistent online presence for the EDC’s brands.
- Monitors social media channels for comments, questions, and engagement.
- Update website event calendars and other data
- Support the Manager in the development of marketing materials.
- Performs other duties, responsibilities and functions as assigned.
Event Support / Client Service (60%)
- Interacts with the public regarding tourism/community related questions and enquiries.
- Attends events to promote St. Thomas, as required, including the Saturday morning Horton Farmers’ Market
- Assists in the planning and execution of various community events, including Market and Tourism-related activities.
- Helps coordinate logistics, set up booths, and provide on-site support during events.
- Engages with event attendees, answering questions and providing information.
*Note: The duties and responsibilities outlined above are representative but not all-inclusive.
*Note: All activities are expected to be performed in a safe manner, in accordance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and its Regulations, along with Corporate Safety policies, procedures and programs. In addition, all necessary personal protective equipment must be used and maintained in good condition.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Two to five (2-5) year College Diploma with a focus on marketing, communications, public relations and/or business management, or equivalent experience.
- One to three (1-3) years experience and comfort in working with the public and in marketing content development, with experience in working on a variety of social media platforms.
- Strong marketing, website and social media skills
- Good organization skills and the ability to work unsupervised
- Ability to demonstrate good communication, enthusiasm and a positive attitude
- Communication and media literacy skills
- Team player but comfortable with independent work
- Must possess a valid Class "G" Ontario Driver's Licence and have access to reliable transportation
- Satisfactory Police Criminal Record Check
Hours of Work: The regular work week is 35 hours per week. This position will require flexibility in the schedule, often working evenings and weekends in support of community events, the Horton Farmers’ Market or other activities initiated by the EDC or others in the community.
REMUNERATION RANGE: $25.80 - $31.36 per hour plus a comprehensive benefit package.
