Marketing Assistant - Summer Student

Economic Development Corporation

4 Month Term April 28, 2025 - September 2, 2025

Under the direct supervision of the EDC Manager of Marketing & Communications, be responsible for assisting with marketing activities associated with the Horton Farmers’ Market, Small Business Enterprise Centre, and in support of Railway City Tourism.

 

Major Tasks:

 

Digital Content:

  • Creates engaging and relevant content for the organization's social media platforms under the direction of the Marketing and Communications Manager.
  • Assists in planning and drafting of posts for 3-4 distinct channels to maintain a consistent online presence for our brands.
  • Monitors social media channels for comments, questions, and engagement.
  • Update website event calendars.
  • Performs other duties, responsibilities and functions as assigned.

 

Event Support / Customer Service:

  • Interacts with the public regarding tourism/community related questions and inquiries.
  • Attends events to promote St. Thomas, as required, including the Horton Farmers’ Market during Market season.
  • Assists in the planning and execution of various community events, including market and tourism-related activities.
  • Helps coordinate logistics, set up booths, and provide on-site support during events.
  • Engages with event attendees, answering questions and providing information.

 

Qualifications:

  • Must currently be enrolled in Secondary or Post-Secondary School.
  • Experience and comfort working with the public is an asset.
  • Strong marketing, websites, and social media skills are required.
  • Good organization skills and the ability to work unsupervised.
  • Ability to demonstrate leadership, good communication, enthusiasm and a positive attitude.

 

The Work Week Includes:

  • Thirty-five hours per week with some weekends and evenings

 

Remuneration Range: $17.20 - $18.86 per hour (2024 Rates), plus 4% vacation pay, working a 35 hour workweek.

Any new hires will be required to obtain and submit a satisfactory Police Criminal Record Check as a condition of employment, prior to their start date. Police Criminal Record Searches will only be requested for those eighteen (18) years of age or older.  Those selected for re-hire will not be required to attain a new police check; however, they will be required to sign a ‘Criminal Offence Self Declaration Form’ so long as no less than twelve (12) months have passed since their last day of work with the Corporation.
