Valleyview Home is looking to hire Nursing Summer Students who are currently enrolled in a University Nursing Program. The Nursing Summer Students will work alongside our Personal Support Workers, augmenting the work force during summer vacations.  

 

Duration and Availability:

  • The duration of this contract will be approximately four (4) months.
  • Shift times include Days (6am-2pm), Evenings (2pm-10pm) and Nights (10pm-6am). 
  • This includes scheduled shifts, call-ins, holidays, and weekends. 
  • Must be available and willing to work all shift times and most weekends.

Position Description:

 

  • Provides and assists Residents with daily personal care using a Resident-centered model, being aware of the whole persons’ emotional, physical, intellectual, cultural, and spiritual needs. Personal care includes feeding, dressing, bathing, transfers/lifts, bedmaking etc.  
  • Observes and reports any changes in residents’ physical and emotional condition.
  • Encourages and assists with transporting residents as needed to support participation in activities to promote optimum physical, social, and emotional well being.
  • Provides individual attention to the needs of residents as directed by registered staff.
  • Participates in and demonstrates an understanding of resident safety principles and practices in all day-to-day activities. 
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Currently enrolled in a Nursing program. Must have attended the previous school year full time and will be returning to the next school term full time. 
  • Must have demonstrated hands on experience providing personal care with the activities listed above, acquired through a nursing program clinical rotation in a geriatric setting or previous clinical experience. 
  • Ability to work in a team environment, accept and follow verbal and written instructions, complete duties to an acceptable level of quantity and quality with minimal supervision and follow Health and Safety Policies and Procedures.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication and problem-solving skills.

Conditions of Employment:

  • Successful completion of a Police Vulnerable Sector Check (dated within the last six (6) months).
  • Satisfactory TB documentation.
  • Must meet all applicable provincial directives with respect to COVID-19 immunization/testing.

 

  Remuneration: $21.67 per hour (2024 rate). This is a Unifor local 27 union position.
