Position Overview:


The Executive Producer plays a critical role in developing, managing and coordinating projects centered on key intellectual property (IP) and content monetization opportunities for Postmedia Studios, a new joint venture with Contend operating under Postmedia Next.  This role combines entrepreneurialism coupled with project management expertise and a deep understanding of creative workflows to ensure the successful development and delivery of high-quality projects that aligns with brand goals and scale the business. The ideal candidate will excel at identifying opportunity, balancing creative vision, timelines, compliance and budgets while fostering collaboration among internal stakeholders and external partners to bring projects to life. 

 

Key Responsibilities:

1) Content and Business Development

  • Collaborate with teams to develop project concepts and storylines. Leverage data, internal archives and internal core competencies to develop slate, ensuring all projects meet Canadian compliance regulations/qualifications.
  • Create required media to communicate slate/projects and provide guidance on creative direction/brand alignment on provided material.
  • Identify business opportunities to support project concepts and create financial models and outcome per. Manage all necessary applications (festival submissions, other) to support objectives.

2) Project Management 

  • Develop and manage detailed project plans, schedules, and budgets for projects. 
  • Ensure deliverables meet brand guidelines, IP standards, Canadian compliance (tax, CRTC, C-11) and client objectives. 
  • Review required agreements, ensuring beneficial outcome for PMN and adherence to terms in the projects.

3) Stakeholder Coordination 

  • Act as the primary liaison between internal teams and external partners
  • Initiate, create and support outcomes required from internal stakeholders (marketing, sales, other)
  • Communicate and deliver project milestones, updates, and deliverables to stakeholders. 
  • Facilitate feedback loops to incorporate stakeholders input effectively. 

4) Team Oversight

  • Provide clear direction to teams, fostering a collaborative and efficient working environment. 

5) Creative and Brand Alignment

  • Collaborate with internal and external teams to ensure content aligns with the core vision.
  • Oversee approvals for production, scripts, storyboards, and final edits, ensuring adherence to compliance. 

6) Logistical and Resource Management

  • Track expenses and ensure all projects are delivered on or under budget. 

7) Problem Solving and Risk Mitigation

  • Identify and address potential production challenges or risks proactively. 
  • Troubleshoot issues related to creative direction, timelines, or resources to keep projects on track. 
  • Maintain compliance with Canadian compliance regulations/qualifications, copyright, IP usage guidelines, and legal requirements. 

 

Skills:

 

  • Strong understanding of video production workflows from pre-production to post-production. 
  • Exceptional organizational and time-management skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities to manage diverse teams and clients.
  • Experience managing projects tied to licensed or original IP, including entertainment franchises or branded content. 
  • Experience reviewing and managing contracts.
  • Familiarity with legal and compliance considerations for IP usage. 
  • Familiarity in Canadian compliance regulations/qualifications (tax, CRTC, C-11), as well as compliance for festival submissions.
  • Passion for storytelling and brand-building. 
  • A track record of delivering large-scale projects on time and within budget.
